Iran to take on Thailand in 2015 AFC U-16 Women’s Championship opener

Tehran Times – WUHAN, Iran will take on Thailand in its first game in the 2015 AFC U-16 Women’s Championship on Wednesday.

Iran has drawn in Group A alongside Thailand, China and South Korea. In the other group the last time champion Japan has been drawn along with last time runner up North Korea, Uzbekistan and Chinese Taipei.

The 2015 AFC U-16 Women’s Championship will be the 6th edition of the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the women’s under-16 national teams of Asia. The tournament will be held in China between 4–15 November 2015. A total of eight teams will play in the tournament.

Same as previous editions, the tournament acts as the AFC qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. The top two teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Jordan as the AFC representatives, besides Jordan who qualified automatically as hosts.
