Iraq to play in Iran’s Mashhad in World Cup qualifiers

Tasnim – MASHAD, The Iraq Football Association confirmed that their matches in the 2016 World Cup qualification will be held in Mashhad, northeast of Iran.

The Iraqi football team has been drawn in Group B along with Japan, Australia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.

According to the association, Mashhad has been chosen the host their matches since a large minority of Iraqis live in the city and can support their national team in the stadium.

Iraq national football team will host Thailand on October 11 in Mashhad.

Saudi Arabia football team will not play Iraq on Iranian soil and their matches will be held in on neutral soil.
