Tehran Times – TEHRAN, UEFA’s Head of Stadia and Security, Marc Timmer ,who attended Persepolis match against Tractor Sazi in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on Sunday, believes that Iran is a very safe country.

“I came to Iran a couple of days ago and I would like to say that Iran is a very safe country. This is my first visit to Iran and I hope this wouldn’t be the last,” Timmer told reporters.

“I was at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium to watch Persepolis match against Tractor Sazi and despite the stadium was packed with 80,000 fans, I felt very safe,” Timmer added.

“There have been security issues in Europe in the past years like the Juventus v Liverpool clash in which 31 people died but we have improved the safety of the stadiums in recent years. Security and the safety of everyone participating in football matches is a key concern for European football’s governing body,” Timmer said in the security seminar.
