Tehran Times – YOKOHAMA, Iranian referee Alireza Faghani is pleased with his performances during the 2015 FIFA Club World Cup.

Faghani officiated the final match between Barcelona and Argentina’s River Plate, where the Spanish team won 3-0 to capture a record third Club World Cup.

Faghani also officiated Mexico’s Club America and TP Mazembe from Conge in fifth place match.

“I enjoyed officiating at the 2015 FIFA Club World Cup. After a good performance in our first match between America and TP Mazembe, I was selected as the referee of final coach,” Faghani said.

There was a hint of handball as Lionel Messi controlled the ball from Neymar and scored the first goal.

“Sometimes in football, video footages show what really happened. The world of football has accepted that. After the end of the match, nobody talked about the matter,” Faghani stated.

Asked if he will be appointed as an Asian referee to officiate at the 2018 World Cup, Faghani said, “Despite being selected as referee at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup final and FIFA Club World Cup final, there is no guarantee that I will be selected for the World Cup. I need to keep my readiness until the competition,” Faghani concluded.
