Iran Defeats Indonesia in AFC Futsal Championship

Tasnim – TEHRAN, Iran opened the 2014 AFC Futsal Championship with a victory over Indonesia.

On Wednesday, Iran defeated Indonesia 5-1 at the Ton Duc Thang University Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Hossein Tayebi opened the scoring in the 8th minute. Farhad Tavakoli extended Iran’s lead in the 17th minute. Tavakoli and Asghar Hassanzadeh scored two goals one minute later.

Indonesia pulled a goal back but Vahid Shafiei scored Iran’s fifth goal in the 38th minute.

Iran is in Group B along with Australia, China, and Indonesia. The most decorated futsal team in Asia will play China on Friday.

A total of 16 countries, divided into four groups of four teams in the tournament.

The AFC Futsal Championship is the main national futsal competition of the Asian Football Confederation nations. It was first held in 1999 and has been played annually. Iran has been dominant, winning 10 out of the 12 editions of the competition played so far, and finishing 3rd in two others.
