Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Nelo Vingada reached an agreement with the Iran’s Football Federation on Saturday to coach the U-23 football team.

“We are in the final stages. I am very close to a final agreement with the Iran Football Federation,” Vingada was quoted as saying by Fars News Agency.

“I’ve reached a verbal agreement with the Iranian party. I will travel to Tehran within the next week,” the 60-year-old Portuguese said.

Vingada has already worked in Iran twice. In 2009, he led Iranian giant football team Persepolis. He also was appointed as assistant of Carlos Queiroz just in the match against Qatar in the 2014 World Cup qualifier.

Iran is without a coach since the team failed to qualify for the 2012 Olympics under Alireza Mansourian.

Iran participated in the 1976 Montreal Olympics and made it to the second round, where it was beaten by former Soviet Union 2-1.
