AFC – KERMAN, AFC U-19 Championship 2014 qualifying Group D hosts Iran made a winning start in their campaign to reach next year’s finals in Myanmar with a 2-0 triumph over Tajikistan on Tuesday.

The home side broke the deadlock with five minutes of the first half at the Shahid Bahonar Stadium remaining through forward Abdollahzadeh Babak before Ali Fathian settled the nerves with Iran’s second two minutes into second-half stoppage time.

The two-goal winning margin was enough for Iran to take pole position in the standings, with the Group D hosts leading the way on goal difference ahead of Saudi Arabia, who defeated Lebanon 2-1 in Tuesday’s earlier match at the same venue.

The winners of the nine groups and the six best runners-up will join hosts Myanmar in next year’s AFC U-19 Championship.
