Just saw this... Iranian-Canadian in F1 for this upcoming season.... never seen an Iranian in F1 before so thought I would share it. He will be driving for Williams.

Is he a race driver, not a reserve/test one?

This guy is weird. He had the Iranian flag in his insta bio but usually refers to himself as Canadian. Races under the Canadian license and his helmet is Canadian themed. Only once a few years ago in a minor interview, he mentioned he was also Persian.

Also, he's not racing on merit. He's known as a "pay driver", basically he has financial backing and sponsors to pay for his race seat. Seems like a nice guy though.

Yeah, he's half Iranian but only known as Canadian in the sport. His dad is also an investor in the McLaren F1 team.

Yeah it’s pretty common. They usually race for the country that will be most attractive financially and sponsor friendly.

If I am not mistaken, an english F1 driver drive for thailand (Albon). The guy was born in London from an english father and a thai mother, so it is more or less the same situation than Latifi

Also noticed the "Proud canadian" on his twitter. Very disappointed by him, specially when the english guy with only a thai mum drive for Thailand.
Even if Canada gave him a lot, Iran and people of Iran (his roots) that receive shitstorm after shitstorm deserve much more than only a reference in a minor interview.
