Hi all, hope I'm not spamming. I want to encourage you all to get on twitter and tweet at people tweeting #GomezGotRobbed to point out Yazdani's situation and that the refs were the same refs. There is a lot of outrage over the Puerto Rican's clear robbing, which I described in the other thread (the full audio of the judges panel was captured, clear cheating). If we try to link their cases and point out the failures of the refs when it comes to Iranian wrestlers, it might generate some more interest. Who knows. Can't hurt.

Gomez of Puerto Rico w 4 point clear takedown, Uzbek challenged, two judges TWICE put up 2 points for Puerto Rican (which was a ridiculous decision even then because it was a clear 4 point move) but then the same judge as denied yazdani a clear 2 pt takedown realized he was being overruled and pulled another mat judge and the ref which you technically can't do so that instead of being over-ruled 2-1 on the judges panel, suddenly there were 5 votes and it became 3-2 in favor of giving 2 points to the Uzbek. Two of the three votes coming from people who didn't even watch the video replay! And then they penalized the Puerto Rican another point for a "failed challenge". So instead of being awarded 4 points, the other guy was given 3 points. That is a 7 point switch..Originally posted by Abtin View PostWhat else, what happened top the Iranians today, also corruption and shit referees? It's a double-edged sword.Originally posted by ehsan singapore View Posthe was robbed, they wanted to give it to the uzbek, and found a way to rob the mongolian, this olympics, wrestling has been horrible, in refreeing, i would not be surprise if wrestling go to the choping block again, to much corruption, and influence by one nation or very few nations
On the one hand, cries of "corruption" isn't a good look for a sport that had to do all that it did to get reinstated into the Games. But at the same time, the increased spotlight on Wrestling has forced FILA to reform and act more swiftly that it would have in past. I'm glad they've banned the Uzbek judge and in essence admitted mistakes. There has to be accountability.
Now on the bigger picture, having controversy is actually good for the sport. Gets people riled up and talking about it. And also, although it seems awkward, the introduction of women's wrestling has helped Wrestling's image. That's another thing that will help keep it in the Olympics going forward.

Agreed. It was harsh and should have just given a warning imo but it was unsportmanship fromOriginally posted by Irannn View PostThe Mongolian was the only one who didn't get robbed, that was his own mistake to start celebrating too early against the Uzbek opponent. this is about the Puerto Rican wrestler who got robbed against the same Uzbek wrestler.
the Mongolian plus there's always a chance to score in that last 10-5 seconds. Should have been more clever tbh.Last edited by Mr Pouya; 08-22-2016, 12:13 PM.
