the main issue last season was the absence of modric, and carlo's defensive tactics were poor, for example against juve after ronaldo scored that pk, we should have sat back and defended and im sure we would have scored on the counter. also bale was piss poor last year, im sure he will be superb in a central role this year.

sitting back and defending doesnt work too well these days and its risky especially when it gets to the last minutes. Also you need the players that will participate in defense and bale, ronaldo, benzema arent the type to do that for over half the game.Originally posted by irani8perspolis View Postthe main issue last season was the absence of modric, and carlo's defensive tactics were poor, for example against juve after ronaldo scored that pk, we should have sat back and defended and im sure we would have scored on the counter. also bale was piss poor last year, im sure he will be superb in a central role this year.

well PSG played first game missing 4 key players or something so that already set the tone for the 2nd leg.
Man City is never good in CL, they are usually out in groups, only reason they made it this time is cuz Roma choked their last 3 games
Bayern, same story as PSG, a whole lot of injuries
but i was talking about group stages anyway, the knockout rounds most teams are tough anyway. I usually dont remember these teams in tough groups EVER...certainly not group of death. But then again im old maybe my memory is bad

To be honest, there is less and less hard group in CL group stage. This year, the groups are balanced, only Juventus group is tough but that's not group of death either. Today, you have 8 top teams, the others are average/weak, the gap increased a lot with the concentration of top player (Hey messi, suarez, Nilmar in Barcelona). You cannot make tough group with this gap. And at the same time platini make a play off between Valencia and Monaco in one hand, and plays off between the like of tel aviv and gent in the other hand.Originally posted by EKBATAN View Postwell PSG played first game missing 4 key players or something so that already set the tone for the 2nd leg.

ya i agree. Money has ruined the game big time and the gap between elite teams and good teams is a lot, let alone average teams. any given year you have maybe 4 teams that can realistically go for the title, the rest are hoping to go as far as possible.Originally posted by PSGman#19 View PostTo be honest, there is less and less hard group in CL group stage. its annoying that a few teams can buy ALL the top talent in the world, makes it hard to even for some good teams like juve, dortmund, atletico, wolfsburg to even compete, let alone teams that are lower basically never have a chance. This is bad for the game as you will see less and less fans of the non-elite teams because they never have hope. As soon as they find a great player and are enjoying it, here come man city and real madrid with mega offers. Also its bad because more than half these big buys end up on bench or fail or get injured and forgotten about. So when they can be a star in one team, they get mistreated in a big team and end up getting wasted. Then comes MLS, Turkey, russia, china, uae with their big deals. So the balance of talent is all over the place.
This will get worse because of the english tv deals, these teams are gonna pick up ALL the good players from every league. I wouldnt be surprised that any team other than barca, real, bayern who have money will be able to do anything in the future if everyone goes to england.

to be fair to ronaldo, if he is needed defensively he obliges, for example look at the schalke second leg game from last season, for the first half he was pressing the back line of schalke alone and succeeding, he gets a lot of unfair criticism for his defensive work, he truely is one of the best defending forwards. bale and benzema don't have the same work ethic as ronaldo, and for bigger games where we need to conceed possesion (barca, bayern) i would rather have isco play instead of james as he fullfills his defensive duties trough out the defensive game. casemiro also looks very sharp and will be useful in el clasico. i would have liked to get another 9 to add more depth to the squad, honestly i wouldnt have minded llorente, he would have gotten us 10-12 goals in the season coming off the bench. we will have to see with the idea of ronaldo playing up top, but personally i am not convinced.Originally posted by EKBATAN View Postsitting back and defending doesnt work too well these days and its risky especially when it gets to the last minutes.
