Yes, I'm not judging Aria, because he is still half Japanese, and he grew up in Japan. So I respect his decision, he is not like Behrang Safari who was fully Iranian but chose Sweden.
I'm just saying I wouldn't mind losing my swedish citizenship if it meant I would get to play for TM.

This guy is a fool, and this shows that he really had no passion for Iran. JAPANESE CITIZENSHIP? Who gives two craps about that? Football these days is all about increasing your brand, it's a business. The guy has next to no chance of making the Japanese football squad.

He has the chance of going from being a relative unknown in the J-League to (1) becoming well-known by an entire football mad-nation, and (2) playing at the World Cup. Lol. When he's retired 5-6 years from now and has a wikipedia page that's only 2 paragraphs long, he'll regret this.

I agree with the fact that he will probably get capped only 3/4 times because of the heavy concurrency at the Japanese national team. The point about this case is that Aria has been born and raised in Japan. He is not common with the Iranian culture, he only has an Iranian dad. He lived his entire life in Japan. The fact that Japan does not allow dual citizenship makes it 10 times harder than it already was. I think it's a very stupid and racist law and I am baffled that FIFA did not take any action against Japan yet. It's not easy to give up the passport of the country you were born and raised. If he decided to play for Iran, life in Japan would be almost impossible for him. I was / am still a huge supporter of Aria joining TM, but it won't happen thanks to the laws in Japan.

I don't want to give people false hope or something, but I just wanted to remember you guys that Aria Hasegawa theoretically still can join Team Melli if he does not get capped by the Japanese National Team. He may be invited by Zaccheroni, but until he gets playing minutes it's still an option to join Iran.

case closed, he made a wrong decision. i bet you he will only get a handful of caps and he will be put aside. where as in iran he could have easily racked up 50-60 caps in 3-4 years of competition.
