Goal-line technology

The 2012 FIFA Club World Cup will be the first FIFA tournament to use goal-line technology following its approval by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) in July 2012. The two systems approved by FIFA, GoalRef (installed in Yokohama) and Hawk-Eye (installed in Toyota), will be used in the two stadiums

i think the refs hear a beep or something in their head sets.....now what does it mean that the iranian refs are reserves? are they on-call just in case, if one of the refs get injured, they substitute in for them?

Platini still opposed to goal-line tech

UEFA president Michel Platini has restated his opposition to goal-line technology, claiming its introduction would be too expensive.
Platini believes introducing technology in competitions such as the Champions League, Europa League and the European Championship is too expensive, and he would rather invest in the grassroots and development of football than spend big on goal-line technology.

"It is not a question of goal-line technology, it is a question of technology. Where do you begin with the technology and where do you end with the technology? Technology is helpful but we have to draw the lines on certain things," the UEFA president told reporters.

"To put goal-line technology in our competitions would cost 50 million euros in five years. I prefer to give 50 million euros to the grassroots and development in football rather than to put 50 million euros into technology for perhaps one or two goals per year. That's a lot of money per goal.

"We supported the additional referees which are now accepted by the international board, and with the referee one metre from the line I think if he has good glasses he can see if the ball is inside the goal or outside."

FIFA are testing goal-line technology at the 2012 Club World Cup in Japan.

grass roots development my ass! how do u draw the line for that?? who gets what and where does it get invested ??? in what country or what region?? its too vague and makes no sense....also it means lots of money being lost in the administrative process and basically the actual money that will end up going towards football will be like 1/10th of it!


so what if it cots 50 mil over 5 years....as long as teams dont get cheated goals and make a bad name for the sport as it is its worth it. Its time to put some type of end to all these ref mistakes that are happening around the world on WEEKLY basis. Goal line technology wont end it but at least it'll make it a little better.
