                  It kinda was since I already had an idea who it was and didn't have to do a blind search on everyone.

                      No, he played for quite a few years for Portugal both before and after the 66 WC.

                      This guy never played for his country before the WC in which he won the top-scorer and never again - a very unique and strange phenomenon. There is one more player who never scored before or after being the top-scorer in a WC, but he did play outside the WC.

                            And this question is very difficult. Are you counting Club World Cup as well? I know Franz Beckenbauer has 5 World Cup medals, 3 as a player and 2 as a manager, but only two of them were gold.

                              Salenko did not score after the World Cup but he didn't play in the next one either. Someone already mentioned the correct answer.
                              I'm not counting club World Cup medals. I'm only counting Gold medals for the World Cup.

                                Carlos Alberto Parreira was the coach (1982, 1998 and 2006) and the country was France.
