Well Portugal is overrated but they just got outplayed by a better Spanish squad. David Villa made Portugal pay but on top of that Spain had I believe like 60% of the possession, and Ronaldo's boys were playing lazy ball.

I don't think they are shit. I just think they have lost abit of quality in the past few years when the likes of Figo and Rui Costa gone. Nani is improving rapidly at club level, but needs to capture it in international level. It's a pity he was injured, because he would've helped.Originally posted by I Walk Alone View Posttheir team has the best defense. but when it comes to attack seems like ronaldo is so alone
bunch of shit playersI've learnt it's not what you have in your life, but who you have in your life that counts

because when considering whether or not a team is good or not you always happen to look at their history. If somoene was in a coma for 6years and woke up today and knew it was wc, he would assume that brasil, argentina are favourites etc. Portugals so called golden generation is over with the likes of figo, nuno gomes, rui costa etc, all world class players at the time. And in their defence, i think their current team can beat holland, unless holland start playing. they got knocked out by spain.Originally posted by soniq View Postits funny how people talk about the past when evaluating teams of the present.
euro 2004 was 6 years ago
and 2006 WC was 4 years ago.
alot can change in all that time.
similarlyeverybody was shocked that italy was out early in the WC, but it was no surprise to those who actually were familiar with the italian team.

Well if you're going to mention England winning a World Cup in the past, you should also mention that Portugal finished 3rd in that very same tournament back in 1966 with Eusebio.Originally posted by EKBATAN View Posti agree
but in portugal's case, they werent great in past or present, except those 2 tournaments which i mentioned their way up to semis in 06
If you want to mention the other country's leagues, you should also mention Porto winning the Champions League in 2004, and Benfica also winning 2 European Cup's in the past.
They have been consistently good for decades. They may not be an elite team, but they are definitely a top 10-12 team in the world, which would be considered a good team on the international stage.
