Every team should instead of Jombotron get a "fan-leader" it usualy gets the crowd fired up:

However, despite the fact that there usually isn't any singing (outside of College FB and the 7th inning stretch at a baseball game), NFL games get CRAZY loud in America. N.A. football is HUGE here. And in Canada... hockey rinks get even crazier and louder than football stadiums in America--probably because they're all indoor and have closed roofs.

Americans get riled up at sporting events all the time. There are always stories of people being kicked out of events for throwing beer, being rowdy etc. That's why a lot of stadiums are putting restrictions on alcohol sales nowadays. Don't believe that Americans can get crazy loud and crazy in general? Wear an opposing team's jersey at a Philadelphia Eagles game. See if you don't get dragged out by the ushers for your own safety. Those ****ing fans booed Santa Claus for goodness sake, they're just as insane as any soccer fan worldwide.

u know maybe we dont need passionate sport fans in america, people are already stupid and nuts killin each other over tennis shoes....last thing we need is for them to kill each other over a basketball game

I think there are several issues as to why we don't chant and cheer like in Europe.

    1) American sports are all about money. The rich sit close, the true fans sit up top. It sucks. I've been to many OSU games, especially when I was a student, loud as could be to try to throw the other team off and I was kind of far away. The old married couple sitting in the front row (front row like 3 feet away from the players) are sitting there not paying attention with the woman knitting a scarf or reading a book (I've seen it with my own eyes, plenty of times). So the true fans are not "in the action" as much as they could and should be.
    2) With that said, even when they are "in the action", Americans are not as passionate for their sports as Europeans are. They may be addicted and feel strongly for their teams, there's just a different feeling towards your sports team than other countries display through their feeling.
Here's an exmple: years ago us soccer fans would be made fun of for our singing and chanting by Americans. This year at my university's football game we started doing this cheer

The same fcking thing! lol Before, you would get looked at real weird or doing this. Now, we have 105,000 doing it!
    3) As Ekki said, college sports is where you'll find the closest thing to singing or chanting. Each school has a fight song and different cheers that we do. There's also something different you feel for your college team as opposed to your professional team. I'll use myself as an example: I LOVE Ohio State. Why? My father brought my mother and brother to this country to go to Ohio State. My mother worked for Ohio State. My brother went to Ohio State. I went to Ohio State. We're a Buckeye (our mascot) family and for the rest of my life, I will be a Buckeye fan. But when I go to my favorite NFL team's games, ehhhhhhh I don't care. Why? My favorite NFL team is in another city 2 hours from here and even if it was here, what have they done for me? Nothing. What has Ohio State done for me? Everything. When my NFL team loses, no big deal. When Ohio State loses? Don't talk to me lol.

I hope this gives you a different perspective on American sports and why they are how they are.
