Yeah, that's why I don't know if he's celebrating or crying right now. He's from Bahrain, but is incredibly defensive of Saudi Arabia.

Yeah. I totally agree.Originally posted by Pharaoh View PostQualifying (and life in general) is just much too unpredictable to ever take anything for granted. The things that have happened with Egypt just this time alone is enough to make anyone feel like nothing is predictable. Hell, who would've thought that England and France would miss USA '94? Or that Holland wouldn't qualify for Korea/Japan? Or that Argentina would be on the brink of elimination right now?
Moral of the story is the past buys you nothing. It has to be earned from scratch every time you take the field.
A lot of 'big' teams are in trouble, although in Iran's case the government is systematically wrecking football.
I just wish we had a few happy memories from 2006 to keep us going hopefully until our next qualification.

Pharaoh,
I think I remember around the time of the WC in 2006, you made a comment along the lines of "enjoy the world cup, you don't know for sure when you'll be in it again".
Those words have really stuck in my mind, and watching Bahrain a tiny island of 800,000 on the brink of qualification makes me wonder how long before Iranian football will pick up again.

Here's a working video of the last 2 goals:

Yes they are one of the best in Asia as far as bribing refs but apparently this time their check bounced.
