Iran certainly received a cheer from the audience. Not a huge one I should admit, but still much better than the other 180+ countires who got nothing..Originally posted by Iranian soccer fan View PostI didn't hear Iran get booed, whatchu talkin' about?
Demis, I'm suprised you say you weren't impressed, I thought it was very impressive!
and Lulu, how do you feel seeing Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong and China all seperate?
People did an analysis on the cheers all different contries received and classified them in 4 levels.
Level 1, Couries/Areas won the biggest cheers: China (Needless to say)
(Level 1- Hong Kong China (Own People), Chinese Taipei (Alwayse regarded as own people, welcome back to homeland)
Level 2, America (Big country, lots of stars)
Russia (Good relation with China)
Pakistan (Showed great help to us after the earthquake)
Iraq (For their courage and sports spirit, well deserved!!)
Level 3, Japan (Athletes carrying both Japanese & Chinese flags)
Cuba, Iran (Good relation with China)
Germany, UK, France, Switcherland...(Don't know why..)
Korea (Loud cheers, but mainly from their own people. There are many Koreans living in Beijing!)
Level 4, All others..
Mostly silence.sigpic

That's a good question. There were lots of talks and debates before the game on how we enter the stadium. Many people reckon that we should do what the Koreans did in 2000 & 2004, all Chinese athletes enter together just under the name of 'CHINA'. But unfortunately that did not happen. For Hong Kong's case, there's no problem because it has been officially part of China for 11 years. Since they have their own Olympic Committee and is alwayse represented in International Sports as a seperate area, they have their own team. The problem is if we parade together with Hong Kong athletes, and that does not include Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), that will be a huge mistake.Originally posted by Iranian soccer fan View Postand Lulu, how do you feel seeing Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong and China all seperate?
Taiwan is a much more difficult case. They regard themselves as 'Chinese Taipei' in the Olympic Games, cos they know they are Chinese people just as we are. Due to long-time political differences and parties disputes, they do not have the right to use the name 'Republic of China' anymore, which was the origin of our country (founded in 1911). To me, that's a real shame. The taiwanese people are the best in the world and we owe them a lot.
As to the fact that we can't united as one country and parade together, that's the saddest part for me for today's ceremony. We have said to them 'Welcome home' and they responded 'We will do our best to compete in our home base'. The Olympics games is a pride for all Chinese people. I believe that one day, we will all stand together, united. Country name can be changed, flag colour can be changed, but our warmest feelings towards our Taiwanese friends will never change. Becasue we are always one big family.
That's all I feel about this issue. Anyway, thanks for your support. I think today was a nice show. The majority of Chinese people are satisfied too. I feel very proud as a Beijing ren.
