^^ Why hasnt he mentioned the defensive pairing of Rio and Vidic - two people that had Torres in their back pockets for 180 minutes - baffles me

Then again, not every team has a Rio or a Vidic in their side

someone who played in both leagues saying which one has weaker defense:

    Torres: Premiership Defenders Are Dodgy!
Spanish super-striker Fernando Torres has risked becoming public enemy number one amongst opponents next season by publicly ridiculing the ability of Premiership keepers and defenders. He also raised eyebrows by suggesting that Chelsea stars Petr Cech and Ricardo Carvalho are two of the only people in England's top division who really know how to keep the ball out of the net.

Hearts had a chance in the past 2 or so years to break it when they were taken over by a few rich Russian-Lithuanians but they went off-track due to a poor relationship between the club board and the manager George Burley over interference in team and transfer affairs and he left the club just when Hearts had 10 unbeaten games under their belt in the start of the 2005-06 season. All went downhill as the club officials feuded and Hearts became stuck where they were despite the money. The did however win the Scottish Cup in 2006, but their challenge for the SPL has since faded miserably.

Here are a few interesting stats about the SPL. Since the first season in 1890, Rangers have won 51 league titles (the first team in world football history to win 50 league championships) with Celtic on 42 titles.

Next in line ? A tie of FOUR league titles each for Edinburgh clubs Hearts and Hibernian, and Aberdeen - 3 of Aberdeen's league titles were won when Sir Alex Ferguson was manager which also included the 1983 Cup Winners Cup when Aberdeen beat Real Madrid 2-1 in extra time

Nowadays Lazio is crap so you can't count them as a contender,

Next year it will be one of these teams, Inter, AC Milan, Juve or maaaybe Roma..

So Italy has got 3/4 realistic teams who can be the champs..
In the EPL it's the same.. Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal and maaaybe Liverpool
The SPL has only got 2 major teams and other lil teams who can suprise..
Germany has more teams who could be champ, Bayern is the biggest one, but Werder, Schalke, Stuttgard and in some degree HSV are also realistic contenders.
In Holland it will be between 3 or 4 teams, PSV, Ajax, AZ and Feyenoord.
France is all about Lyon although Marseille and Bordeaux and Lens also may have a chance..

Germany: Bayern Munich, Stuttgart, dortmund, bremen
    France: Lyon, Nantes, Monaco
    Netherlands: PSV, Ajax
    EPL: Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U
quick question: what was up with the 99-2000 season in soccer? Deportivo, Lazio, and AS monaco all winning? Strange...
As i just realized someone else already mentioned, JUVENTUS won twice in this century my friend. SERIE A is the best out of them all. They have the most number of teams fighting for the title. There are at least 5-6 strong teams as opposed to England or Spain where it's always Man U-Arsenal-Chelsea or Barca-Real.

A better way to figure this out would be : the clubs which participated in the most prestigious european club tournament(champions league)Final in the last 10 years. italy have 12 appearances spain 8 and english 6 while germany has 4.
som1 shuld also chek the best 3 teams in the last 3 World cups and Euro cups to see which league has the most players quality wise.
UEFA cup final the last 10 seasons: 5 times spain,3 for italy,3 for england,1 for germany.
that only proves which leagues top teams are the best. how about the other 16 teams in the league?

That is a good way, BUT, 10 years and 3 world cups are too long...the EPL's rise to TRUE prominence has been in recent years...really, it has only been 3 years...sure, they were good before that too, but they have become better.

I think the English teams will continue to dominate the CL for a few more years...but Juventus is coming back to take care of business

    You are right.

Lyon is the most represented side with 11 players, Panathinai*** with 10 and Bayern Munich with 9.

Sorry...Italy has also had Juventus as champions (twice, not including the two they were stripped of) this millenium. 01/02 and 02/03

Furthermore, the EPL is the "best" league in the world with the "best" players only because that's where the money is...it's called marketing.

I would much rather watch a La Liga or Serie A game over an EPL game. The EPL is just hyped up, and the top 4 are almost always there...

Look at Italy this year...Milan finished 5th...Fiorentina and Udinese put in spectacular performances, as did Genoa and Napoli if you watched their games!
