what i meant by random was that most people who i know had never expected Egypt to come out and take it, like people were like "EGYPT?? What the hell?"

Dont know about you, but me and my maters was expecting Egypt to rip everyone apart before the tournament even began.

The only threat Egypt would have faced we thought was from Ivory Coast and Ghana...and they made it look like a walk in the park

But yeah, players like Zidan, Aboutrika, Hassan, Gouma, Shehata, Zaki....I was confident Egypt would have annihilated the opposition. 90% of its players play in Egypt (best league in all of Africa for almost a century now - Ahly FTW ), with an Egyptian coach and with such a long dominating history at the continental stage - team chemistry and morale was there which other teams with their European coaches, and Europe-based players lacked.

Its just sad that Egypt have only qualified for the World Cup TWICE despite their dominance.

Then again it took Iran 3 Asian Cup wins before they finally qualified for Argentina '78 when a side like North Korea had already beaten Italy and reached the 2nd round in WC 1966

Your honorary Egyptian citizenship is on its way, as if the help in '73 wasn't enough . We better freakin qualify this time. All I ask for is a fair group, not even easy. If we can just get there as with the Olympics and Youth Championships I'm confident we'd do something.

just a note though, continental cups are always very stupid, some random unexpected team wins, and then doesnt make the world cup

Way wrong on that one bro . Every African team brings the best squad they can to the Nations Cup, naturally. It's the most important tournament we have. Every big African name you can think of is there every time. Their respective nations would castrate them if they skipped out. Just look at how Eto'o, Drogba, and co. cry when their team is eliminated and you'll know how much it means.

As for World Cup 2002... Egypt was again in Africa's Group of Death, with Senegal, Morocco, and Algeria (again, only one team qualifies). As you know, Senegal was the team that qualified (though Egypt beat them in the qualifiers) and went on to have a great World Cup.

Dam bro if Egypt does not have bad luck they have no luck at all THAT SUCKS. Semegal and Morocco are tough as nails. They only somewhat easy tea is Algeria, but to honestly tell you the truth I don't know much about that team.

Oh by the way I just looked at the loist of XI and I noticed SEVEN players on the Egypt team if you count the reserves. Congragulations dude it looks like Egypt assembled a nice tem. Lets hope they make it through I will be cheering for them in WCQ.

I remember a while back we plaed agaisnt you guys and lost in Penalty Kicks something like 8-9 it was intense! Great gaem btw both teams played hard and at a high level. I think Iran and Egypt were in a tournament with two other teams.
