Maybe Keegan left the meeting feeling angry but didnt really resign/get sacked ?

I think its to do with Keegan sticking with Joey Barton whilst Mike Ashley probably wants that convict to leave the team.

Keegan Sacked Over Joey Barton Birthday Party


Kevin Keegan, the sacked Newcastle United manager, lost his job over his loyalty in jailed midfielder Joey Barton, it has been claimed, with the Messiah having organised a birthday party for the Scouse lout this morning.


Barton, 26 today, recently completed his 6-month sentence for common assault and affray, and was released into his manager's care, much to the disgust of Keegan's fellow football managers. The Toon boss went one step further though: he put him in the Magpies side to face Arsenal last Saturday!
When Barton ran out onto the pitch at the Emirates Stadium, the player was greeted by boos and jeers - and that was only the Newcastle fans! Arsenal supporters also voiced their opinions, but were far less vociferous.


As Barton turned up for training this morning, Keegan greeted him with an extraordinary rendition of "Happy Birthday!" and had the rest of the squad wish him well and give him 'Three Cheers'.


For Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, this was too much, and he summoned Keegan to his office, where he gave the grey-haired Messiah a dressing-down. It's not known what Keegan's responses were, but the ex-England boss is now on the dole again.

Newcastle United denies that manager Kevin Keegan has been sacked from the English Premier League club after a meeting with the board.

"For the avoidance of doubt, the club has not sacked Kevin Keegan as manager," Newcastle United said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Kevin has raised a number of issues and those have been discussed with him. The club wants to keep progressing with its long-term strategy and would like to stress that Kevin is extremely important, both now and in the future,” the statement added.

"Newcastle United values the effort and commitment shown by Kevin since his return to St James' Park and wants him to continue to play an instrumental role as manager of the club," it explained.

Newcastle United currently stands in the 11th place in the English Premier League table with just four points from their opening three games.

The 57-year-old was reportedly not satisfied with the club's policies during the summer transfer window, which closed at midnight on Monday.

Keegan, who managed the club between 1992 and 1997, returned to Newcastle in January after the sacking of Sam Allardyce.

He knows that if Keegan is not there he'll not sell a single shirt, next game at St James's will be like watching the Qatari league (empty), we are not a club of glory seekers, the fans dont give a shit about trophys or money. All we care about is pride, pasion & local heroes.

I think, the story was blown out of propotion and i cant believe it took over 60% of the news yesterday (the rest was Robinho and the other stuff), and for me that just show how important we are to the league, thats how you know whet a big club is.

PS: good luck Man City, the fans waited that long and your time has come.

Messiah v Wise man goes to extra time
Speculation was rife on Wednesday evening that one of the major obstacles to Kevin Keegan remaining in charge of Newcastle United could soon be removed - with the departure of Dennis Wise from the club.

That was then dampened by apparent confirmation that the situation remained unchanged from earlier however, when a club statement was released.

Different sources claim different recent transfer -related events to have been the trigger for the rows at SJP: the sale of Milner, attempts to flog Barton, Owen, claims that any of the squad were available and the failure to sign players in the positions identified by Keegan as priorities.

What seems beyond question now though is that one of the two will be departing. And unlike KK, there are no crowds of chanting fans with flags and banners outside the ground in support of Wise - or in the dressing room.

Keegan Quits Newcastle - Official

Reports issued this evening state that Kevin Keegan has left Newcastle United 48 hours after a stormy meeting between himself and the club hierarchy. 'King Kev's' second coming at St. James', then, lasted just over eight months...

After a confusing few days, the League Mangers' Association have revealed that Keegan has indeed left his post as Newcastle United manager.

Having not taken training for the last three days, Keegan's situation was unclear after the club insisted he had not been sacked and the LMA consistently confirmed that the former England boss had not resigned.

Club owner Mike Ashley flew home from a business trip to hold face-to-face talks with Keegan today, and it seems that the talks have confirmed Keegan's decision to leave the club.

The relationship between Keegan and Ashley has been strained ever since Executive Director (Football) Dennis Wise was brought into the club to oversee club transfers reportedly without Keegan's backing.

And the relationship between the manager and the club's board continued to deteriorate over disagreements over the lack of high quality additions being made to the squad and the board's attempts to sell Joey Barton and Michael Owen over the head of Keegan on deadline day.

Wise won the war.

Oh well, Wise's plan worked, Keegan is gone.
Its a sad day not just for Newcastle fans but to all tro football fans (except Mancs who love no one and hate everyone).
As for me (and all Toon fans in the city & the north east) its more than loosing a manager, we lost a part of the city, a symbol, a friend, a father, a son & a friend.
If you have SKY sports news just put it on and just look at the fan, this never happend in the history of football, half of the city out cheering for a departed manager. Only in the Toon, the best and troest fans in the world.

I hope the club goes forward and the players get over it and give it all in our next game against Hull in 10days.
