ive always been a striker, but ive played RM, LM, AM, and LD too. from my personal experience being a striker is the hardest by far. you are waiting the whole time until you get a proper pass and then you have to watch for offside and you need a perfect run. once you get the ball you have to worry about all the defenders coming at you, and there is so much pressure when you need to score because if you miss an easy chance people will give you hell. for defending all you have to do is close the passing angle or not let someone get past, or clear the ball which are easy. the only hard part of defending is defending against a cross or in the air.

why do you think most of the best players in the world are attacking midfielders/strikers? there were only a couple of really good players who were defenders.

No, defending is not as easy as you describe. If the defender next to you is a lazy ass bum, then you are going to have a hell of a time dealing with the likes of Ronaldinho! Do you think it's easy putting pressure on Henrey, Ronaldinho, Zidane and ...? You should be a hell of a defender to be able to deny them. There is pressure on forwards to score goal, but there is the same pressure on defenders to not to concede goals. If you don't score and have good defenders, the least you get is a draw, but if you score and have bad defenders, you may lose!

You see, people only see the fancy moves and goals by forwards. But experts look at the team as a whole. That's why they picked Cannavaro rather than Henry. A good coach knows that he needs to have a strong deffense in order to score! Base is very important. having a great goalie is essential to a team.

I have played in every position: Goalie, LB, RB, sweeper, DM, RW, LW, ST. Based on my experience, the most difficult position to play is the DM (diffensive midfielder). Why? because you are the key player to either win the game or lose. you win the middle, you win the battle. this is my own made slogan! and I truely believe in it. and you have to be extrimely fit to go up and down the field for 90 min. (last defenders and forwards don't do this)

I give you an example. lets look at Iran and Milan. Iran has Nekounam as DM and Milan has Pirlo. Next time watch their game carefully. If they play good, they win powerfully, if the screw up, they may win but it'll be a lucky 50-50 game. I have obsered this more than 50 times.

But you know, at the end it's a very subjective matter. but the reason of why the best players are AMs or Sts is that they have more freedom on the field and they know that if they lose the ball, there is a stupid ass diffender to cover him up! But there is no space for errors for Deffenders and Goalkeepers, that's why they can't do any fancy dancy stuff. Maybe if you put Cannavaro up front, he'll be a lot better than Hunry or ...

I wish someone would do that. it would be fun to watch that game

but compare a defender messing up to a striker messing up. the only way a defender can mess up is by acting stupid, like failing to control a simple ball, or dribbling in front of the net, or putting it in their own net, or passing it to an opponent. otherwise they wont be blamed, but a striker cant score all the time and even the best strikers miss easy chances, because trying to score is harder then controlling a simple pass.

But cannavaro has showed the best defensive skill I've ever seen with Juventus and Italy in the World Cup, with him in Madrid now I can say our defensive worries are turning into offensive worries. He's a talented defender and even better leader.

As a striker you can miss 10 sitters and still score 2goals and noone would complain,But as a defender/keeper you save your goal 10times and let go twice you are gonna be deadmeat!

once again you didnt read properly. you said offence is EXTREMELY easier then defence but im saying offence is slightly harder than defence.

As a strike you dont need to have perfect performance to be successfull,
on the other hand in order to be a successfull Defender/Keeper you need to be perfect!

well as in perfect if that means not messing up by making a stupid mistake then ya. but the main point we are arguing is which is harder to play: striker or defender. if you need to be perfect to be successful as a defender, then that means defending is easy that you are expected to be perfect. if a striker can be successful by not being perfect, it means being a striker is harder because even if you make mistakes, it is still considered to be a good performance. get it?
