You could see why that team last might have only conceded 11 goals this season. So well drilled, will not be surprised if their manager finds himself at a bigger club next season.

Porto now find themselves in 3rd place (no direct CL qualification).

Taremi and executions in Iran: "Justice is not done with a rope"

This Sunday, the striker left a message against the Iranian regime.

After, on Saturday, two more men were executed by the Iranian regime, allegedly for having participated in the popular protests that broke out in September, Mehdi Taremi turned to social networks. The FC Porto striker was outraged and frustrated by the way justice is done in Iran, which is unbalanced and violent.

"Justice is not done with a rope. We have so many swindlers and criminals in prison, with trials lasting several years. But because these oppressed young people come from lowly families and have their hands tied, they are executed on three counts? What society finds peace with bloodshed and executions every day?" wrote the Iranian international.

According to some reports in the international press, at least four men were executed in Iran, but several human rights defense organizations speak of 16 people sentenced to that end. Trials are quick, unequal and behind closed doors, and executions are usually carried out by hanging.

These citizens were punished for participating in popular protests against the regime after the death of the young Iranian Kurd Mahsa Amini, aged 22, and which became one of the most serious challenges to the theocratic regime in Iran, installed by the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

Finally something tangible. Thank you for objecting to the executions Mehdi. Welcome to the opposition.

Mehdi has been in the opposition and with the people since the start of the “Zan, Zendegi, Azadi” movement (his Tweets document that). At the same time, He has family in Iran and has chosen his words carefully. He is NOT free to speak out like you and me.

What a shame though, Manchester United is playing great at the moment and players like Rashford, Martial and Bruno Fernandes would be able to give Mehdi great service and he could score a lot of goals there. Everyone watches their games and follows the League so overall it would be great for Iranian Football as well 😄

A Dutch coach only do party bazi with his countrymen. Will never switch to Taremi.

Actually, only Iranians in high position don't do party bazi with their countrymen. Shame

Weghorst has 2 goals on 20 games from 30 shots in the Premier League.
He has zero Champions League experience.

Ten Haag is going to get him because he's Dutch and grew up 20 km away from him.

For those who think football at the top level is a cold, data driven process.

It's cold data driven process when Iranians have poor data. When one Iranian have good data, it is parti bazi all over.

Hold on just a minute here. If you are going to present data, show the whole of the data.

Firstly Weghorst has Champions league appearances (5) but also Europa league.

Taremi cost: 20-30m Euros? (I am only guessing here based on past numbers).
                                Weghorst cost a reported 3m

Number of goals in Bundesliga games: 59 in 118 games 0.5 goals/game Not bad at all. Add to that 4 Continentail league goals.
For Taremi, goals in a weaker Portugese league; 45 in 81 games 0.55 goals/game .Taremi has 20 goals in Continetal football

Weghorst has had one bad season in Burnley...a team that got eliminated that year. Put Taremi in Burnely and his goal output would drop as well.

Undoubtably his shared nationality with Ten Hag played into this...but scoring a couple of clutch goals in a crazy game against Argentina, the world champions must add to his value.

Taremi is a better player at the same age...but Taremi is 7-8x the price as well. Weghorst is a cheap steal...at least on paper.

So no, it is not blatent racism. On the face of it maybe a rational decision based on finances and probably tinged with familiarity.
