TM camp now has 16 players, and there are between 15–16 legionaries waiting for their names to be called.

Would have liked to have seen Yasin Salmani in that first list of 16. We have an aging squad and he offers youth, hustle and a goal threat. Would also be good experience for him even if he didn’t get game time.

Also think we need to take Zahedi, especially as there are still questions over how match fit Sardar will be.

The article already mixes football with politics more than once...

But if you write any comment, however minor, about Iran's political situation - it gets removed.

I don't usually say this but FAK the Guardian

Yasin has yet to fully heal from his injury, which is why neither CQ nor Marfavi invited him to practice with the TM players as one of the 11 U21 players.

Yes, this is an old roster of players, but CQ joined TM late and prefers to work with veterans over young players to reduce risk.
He deserves praise for giving the chance to invite U21 players to the training session.
Most of the present TM players won't be included in the new TM that will be introduced after the Qatar WC.

It is the fault of both IFF and U23 coach Mahdavikia that U23 is in such a dreadful state and that CQ has little alternatives for using U23 players.
Mahdavikia made a costly and unsuccessful move by restricting himself to U21 players, wasting the chance for U23 players to get exposure and experience on the international stage. TM and CQ might have benefited from strong U23.

I just realised what a old team we have. The average must be over 27-28 I guess. And I wonder why you have Beiro in your Legionar list:d

As i predicted Cheshmi was preferred to Mehdipour. Hardani, Mehdipour and Mohebbi are out.
I highly doubt Hosseinzadeh or Zahedi make it. 4 of 30 will be crossed off, 2 keepers, possibly Fallah and one last
30 players will be in final camp, 4 will be cross off:
                Keepers.
                Abedz
                H. Hosseini
                Beiro

                Sardar
                Taremi
                Karimi

My feeling is 4 will be Akhbari, Payam, Jalali and Fallah base on CQ preference

Tbh too many players who don't deserve to be there:
Abedz, Amiri, Nourafkan, even Omid, Gholi. Cheshmi.
                Old squad....
Taking guys like Omid, Amiri who probably won't get any min why not take younger players like Khodavandelou, Mohebi or hosseinzadeh?

I'm almost certain that at least one of either Omid or amiri will get playing time, maybe even start at least one match.

They're both work horses in the midfield and amiri can also operate as left back, and has come up huge for team mellli in general.

Especially against England where we'll play very defensively, they certainly both have a great chance to get minutes... One of them to start would not surprise me at all

Amiri is not even shadow of last couple years.
I like Omid but at 34 i highly doubt he start any game in WC. Maybe few min at best.

Jafarzadeh is a good guy. He’s not a propagandist for IR. He was one of few journalists in Iran informing international media on women not being allowed in stadiums in Iran, and also pushing for their entry in Iran.

Regarding the other guy (Radka) - I’ve never heard of him. Is he even real?

indeed ... If not in their Peak form and at such old asss age , both would likely be mostly useless inclusions in WC traveling squad..! however WC experience is highly valuable asset the two possess and that's probably something CQ values the most in his decision making of who to take to WC ..! Also familiarity with his prefered system of play..!!

im only really pissed still that Zahedi looks outa of WC picture..!!? He really deserve a spot in the traveling squad and could play vital role for us in gutter .... even more as a winger/CM than some of these already known insufficent overall quality, useless shitts like Sarlak, cheshmi, jalili etc..!!

Based on the list, then several u21 players must be on the bench v Nicaragua, no?

If so, Barzegar, Sadeghi, and Ghorbani have a greater chance than most.

It's incredible how many Naft MIS players have advanced thus far.

]He's not a propagandist but at the same time he doesn't mention the political situation/women's revolution. Akheh who the hell cares about "Qatar stance" right now

He can be a saint as a person, but the fact is that he works for IR media and we have kids being shot in the street every day by IR. It's hard to rationalise this, and I believe the western media have a moral responsibility here.

We could have had a non-irib journalist writing a more realistic piece for the Guardian.
