I think Skocic only approves Canada, Arab or AFC teams as friendly opponents. Let's hope that before the World Cup in November he approves Northern Ireland, Ireland, Scotland or at least from former Yugoslavia.

With this mentality, Team Melli is finito at the World Cup, 3 huge loss is awaiting TM.

Skocic major error was cancelling of new zealand game. His given reason was it would be too hard on players to return from canada then play NZ.

To me that's pretty lame reasoning. We have a squad of 25 (now even more), and if main guys are tired, its the perfect opportunity to give others a chance vs a competitive international team.

And now New Zealand proved their pedigree, only narrowly losing 1-0 to peru in Barcelona due to GK error.

Their midfield consists of some very promising young players in big Danish sides (brondby, copenhagen) and Matthew garbett young CM of Torino in Serie A. Their LB Cacacde is regular starter for midtable serie A side - he would walk into our xi, and up front newcastle CF bobby wood + scottish CF caused peru some problems. IMO, they have quite a lot of parallels with wales with obviously inferior players in most positions. Would it have been the best friendly ever? No. But rejecting a game on doha when we had a free camp there was always risky. Now canada camp fell through and that game would have lined up perfectly in our schedule to still include an algeria.

Uruguay rejection I can understand ultimately given the amount of days lost to travelling + jetlag.

1 friendly is really not enough in this window and 2 was the bare minimum requirement. IFF will really have to step it up in September if they want to avoid serious embarassment.

Out of Mexico, Uruguay, Peru, Ecuador, Senegal, Qatar, Japan, Oman we should be aiming to play 3. The window is technically September 19-27, and most teams will be aiming for 2 friendlies. However, given our clusterfuck this time we should do everything to fit an additional game. Oman or Qatar can be a good option for this game, they consist solely of local players. You can even add uzbekistan to the group of potential options for this first match, in fact given the trouble they give our ACL sides recently they might be the best bet. On the 19th or 20th we should try to book one of these 2. TMs domestic players and whatever legionairres can get off earliest should start the camp 2-3 before hand, and PGPL if in session should accomodate this. Then rest of foreign based players join for the next 2 matches. This would mean a total of 11 days Camp with 3 matches.

Then in 10 days prior to WC we should aim for at least 1 major friendly, Euro opposition would be available here and everybody will be in qatar so we should try to get Croatia or Serbia if possible. Before start of WC 2014 we had one very last minute dress rehearsal style game vs Trinidad and Tobago, and before 2018 we played Lithuania, both behind closed doors. We should aim to also get one very low tier friendly like this.

In total that would give us 5-6 matches.

no, per latest reporting algeria is the only one. I still hold out a shred of hope for South Africa since there is inconsistency with iranian media reports (they say Sko didnt want to travel to SA, but their coach said publicly that he was willing to fly to Doha for a game vs TM and that he hopes it happens).

Oman didnt happen bc we sent them proposal too late (already had game with NZ and need recovery time afterwards).

The details of Algeria match are as follows:

                        - IFF is paying for Algerian team+staff plane tickets to doha
                        - Qatari authorities are paying for Algerian accomodations in Doha.
                        - Qatari authorities provided stadium

Looking at this, to me at leat it becomes pretty apparent why Cameroon didnt happen. Flight from Douala to Doha is much much further and more expensive than flight from Algiers to Doha. If Cameroon also made this request of IFF, being broke is the reason we turned it down.

Just to see how backwards and incompetently everything is done by the IFF - Qatar is camping in Spain because Qatar is so hot this time of year - while IFF takes our boys to camp there. It's so hot they can only train at night and the boys are often drenched in sweat.

And it’s one that does not grant freedoms of any kind, or accommodate people’s demands in any way. What is increasingly clear is that there is clear demand for change in the regime. What the people want is regime change, and no return to the past. There is a very real possibility of regime change." - Nasrin Sotoudeh

With this kind of financial resources, we won't get a single other friendly, including September.

If we are playing WC teams it is doable, just like Canada and Ecuador were done deals.

WC teams will finance their own travel, the prep games are also in their interest, and many more will be camping in qatar in september than now most likely.

Issue comes when we play non-WC teams/ ask teams to book their flights to a particular host location 1 week before the game. If we avoid these scenarios options are possible. Recall, mexico, uruguay, canada, japan all invited TM to friendlies, not the other way around. Algeria and South Africa coaches are publicly begging for friendly with Iran. Ecuador temporarily cancelled a confirmed friendly with Mali in the states for the mere possibility of game with TM.

Word of Sko's fraudulence hasnt reached these lands yet. They still view us through the prism of 3 consecutive qualifications, 21st ranked in the world, great performance in 2018, mostly euro based players and one of the best true front 2's in international football. Anybody with an asian team in their group is probably interested to play with us, and anybody with a north african side and a map probably doesnt mind playing us either.

There is will of many teams to play us and minimize our costs too (we just pay for our own flights). Should IFF plan accordingly (currently failing to do so and different members are in fighting and internally sabotaging certain friendlies) then nothing listed is too crazy.

I agree with most of this, but that bit at the start is misrepresenting the timeline of what occurred. 1) It was believed that the Canada game could happen on June 5 (the date New Zealand also wanted), 2) it doesn't appear that IFF was making plans for potentially a "home" game in Qatar, but rather a second game in North America. Had we known in advance that Algeria would be confirmed for June 11th in Doha, then it would've been more likely Skocic accepted a match versus New Zealand on June 5th (although I know many members on this board opposed playing New Zealand anyhow and I suspect would've bashed him for accepting).
