This is a good convincing answer. A good coach would teach players one or two things that their club coach has missed and would correct their problem. But that is on the coach right? the coaching staff not the head coach? So a good head coach would arrive with a good coaching team. Maybe we need not just a good head coach but also a good coaching team that would correct players little issues that the useles club coaches fail to correct?

Generally a great coach always has a very good staff.

There is a lot more to coaching to just putting 11 players on the pitch and telling them to play a certain formation. Good coaches demand accountability. CQ had a defensive system in place that nearly held Argentine and Spain goalless. A good coach makes a huge difference.

What could a brilliant coach do when a player suddenly makes a bad decision or a turnover ending up losing the game? Every player we have bar one or two is prone to that. No one can do anything about that really. Most of our league coaches are useless and that is why we don't produce many great players. You see that in almost every league match. When you have 23 players who are not prone to mistakes, are fit and can compete at international level then it is justifiable to hire the top head coach and then you can even hope to get to the semi final.

I agree with the gist of your point, all I can say is that our coach made the most of our relative talent pool in 2014 and 2018 world cups and yes we did have a lot of players who were prone to sootis but now our overall depth is slightly better.

If we can get someone like that then there is all to play for.

This is why I always say on this forum a good coach can make a team so much more than the some of its parts... and why we performed against and in some cases beat teams which had transfermarkt valuations 4 or 5 times more than us and players throughout European leagues in both 2014 and 2018 world cups.
Just as before, we have much weaker defenders and midfielders, it's up to a coach to do what he can with the ingredients he has.
