Typically speaking if they don't score early vs an organized defense they struggle. Their offensive game just lacks variation, especially without Sardar who brings an IQ/technical level and box presence none of the other options have. Scoring early means they can just hit on counters and penetrations from the sides when the opposition naturally have to release their fullbacks/wingers higher up the pitch in search of an equalizer.

Have a feeling Roma and Mou will take advantage of this unless Xabi switches something up.

Good news for sardar is another bad game by them without him. Hlozek in terms of overall play is still a far inferior option in possession, although he also has a good conversion rate with limited service. Would be interesting to see combo of wirtz diaby and adli under sardar, but for that they would have to switch to back 4 which would expose their kiri defense even more (forcing frimpong to play as a real defender).

He was about to come on at the 70 minutes mark, but the coach changed his mind and delayed the sub by 10 minutes.

Gotta say, a bit of an underwhelming cameo. Failed to get in the right position, lost every single aerial battle, and miss judged the ball trajectory on every cross into the box.

Rest of the team wasn't any better either.

yep, pretty much so it seems...!!
what other excuse would there be for his clearly pathetic seeming fitness and form for over a freaking year now..!!?

he clearly possesses the necessary quality to be regular starter in this league, but obviously gets benched game after game (even with Shick sidelined ) because he simply lacks the stamina and fitness and probably doesn't show the hunger and desire in trainings to convince Coach into giving him a starting spot..! (barring a few games here n there when xabi's hand is forced by injuries and fatigue to other attackers)

may be he is dealing with long covid illness ? or just eager to force an exit outa bayer to another interested club ?? who the fk knows..?

That isn’t the case he came from a team were he was the main option like every single attack either ran through him or was centered around him , he was the 1st , 2nd and 3rd options ….

..at Leverkusen there like 3 players ahead of him in the piking order , so the team tactics are not centered around him , he just a Vulture on the field , like make a chance out of nothing or get on an end of cross, but exceptions aren’t high for him , idk what Xabi Alonso has planned but as it stands he wound not even make the bench next year if he continues like this …

best thing he can do is have world class fitness so at least the time he plays he runs a lot and hustle a lot

he is more skilled and has more natural weapons at his disposals compared to the other forwards , but his fitness and lack of opportunities are holding him back…

I watched Patrik Schick miss like a hundred chance before he scored last year he basically played so bad even though they trusted him got them eliminated from the championship league and in the relegation zone… and they still trusted him , they got better as soon as he got injured ,,,

that the trust Sardar needs for like 6 games straight to establish himself

Alonzo is playing a very limited strategy on both offense and defense. They are pressing the ball in the top section of their own half and hope to break into space going forward. Azmoun is not suited for these strategies regardless of form. He should be looking for a new team if he cares about playing time. I would not recommend losing money to gain playing time to him.

Watch this to understand why sardar doesn't make the lineup. Alonso wants players that can press and are fast. In other words Alonso is not looking for a finisher and this is the reason why most of his goals are scored by wingers and MD. Diaby , Frimpong , Adli and Amiri. Diaby and Frimpong have 32 goals + assists together, thats like 60% of their goals.

The question is how many minutes can sardar press and run fast ( from DF to attack)? Looking at his fitness I'll say 20-30 minute max.

Sardar has 2 choice :
A.) train hard and get his fitness back. In team melli before his injury he used to press and run fast for good 80 minutes. e.g. against lebanon and Iraq.
B.) look for another team that wants static number 10 finisher.
