      So Senegal wins the AFCON.
how does that make life difficult for us ..... IF the fifa idiots stick to ranking for seeding and not suddenly revert to region/continent based grouping?

          hmm

          Friday, 28 January 2022, 19:00 (local time)
The Tonga Football Association has informed FIFA of its decision to withdraw from the OFC preliminary competition for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ as a consequence of the recent natural disaster that has ravaged the region.

Tonga had been set to play off against the Cook Islands in a single-legged qualifying match to decide who would earn the right to feature in Group A of the preliminary competition. The winners of the preliminary competition, which is set to be staged in Qatar, will represent Oceania in the intercontinental play-offs.

The withdrawal means that the qualifying match, which was scheduled for 13 March, will not take place and the Cook Islands will instead automatically join the Solomon Islands, Tahiti and Vanuatu in Group A.

                well i found the answer..
                Schedule

The final draw is scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar,[60] on 1 April 2022,[61] prior to the completion of qualification. The two winners of the inter-confederation play-offs will not be known at the time of the draw.
The match schedule was confirmed by FIFA on 15 July 2020.[62] The opening match, featuring the hosts Qatar, will be played on 21 November 2022, 13:00 local time (UTC+3), at the Al Bayt Stadium. During the group stage, four matches will be played each day, with kick-off times being 13:00, 16:00, 19:00, and 22:00 for the first two rounds, and 18:00 and 22:00 for the simultaneous kick-offs of the last round and for knockout stage matches. The third-place match will be played on 17 December 2022 at the Khalifa International Stadium, and the final will be played on 18 December 2022 at the Lusail Iconic Stadium, both at 18:00.[63]
Unlike previous tournaments where the match venues and kick-off times for each fixture are set prior to the draw, the assignment of group fixtures for each matchday to a specific venue and kick-off time will only be made after the group stage draw and the teams of each specific fixture are known. This is possibly due to the close proximity of the venues, which will allow the organisers to optimise stadium allocation for spectators and kick-off times for television audiences.[62] The group stage matches for each group will be allocated to the following stadiums:[63]

Groups A, B, E, F: Al Bayt Stadium, Khalifa International Stadium, Al Thumama Stadium, Ahmed bin Ali Stadium
Groups C, D, G, H: Lusail Iconic Stadium, Stadium 974, Education City Stadium, Al Janoub Stadium

^ wikipedia is usually a reliable source but open editing requires third party confirmations. FIFA has not confirmed the date yet it actually make sense from a timing standpoint that they may just have two placeholders for the intercontinental winners since everything is so tight this year. Announcement by FIFA will be the final confirmation.

How going to place the winner of this playoff during the draw? Excluding every group with an asian or a south American team?

You have a good point there. If Wikipedia is correct and the draw will happen in Doha on April 1st almost 1.5 months before the single match inter-continental playoffs in Doha on June 13-14 (to be confirmed by fifa.com) then the only way I can think of is to put both inter-continental playoff winners in pot 4 and add an exception that those two placeholder balls could not be added to any groups that have teams from AFC, CONCACAF or CONMEBOL since one of them could be the winner of the playoffs. It is not fair or pretty but it is doable.

In theory, if they were to go a full ranking route, they would have to draw all 1st seeds and the inter-confederation play off ties first. Then when they drew one of the 4 AFC automatic qualifiers or the other 2 CONMEBOL automatic qualifiers, they would be able to put them in a group that doesn't include the other confederation. There are other problems with the ranking system beyond AFC and CONMEBOL though... you could potentially have a CONMEBOL team in each pot; Brazil and Argentina in pot 1, Uruguay in pot 2, winner of playoff (likely Peru) in pot 3 and Ecuador in pot 4... or you might have Senegal in pot 2 and the 4 other African teams spread across pots 3 and 4. They'd be backing their rankings system but it would make the draw very start/stop and confusing as they'd have to say "we have to place this time in that pot" every other team they draw.

As I said on previous post, the easiest way to do the draw is to go back to the geographical pot system and group AFC with CONMEBOL. Otherwise, they have to do away with the "2 teams from the same confederation can't be in the same WC group" draw restriction (except UEFA who is permitted 2 teams in one group), which I highly doubt they'll do for a World Cup - they wont want clusters of teams from the same confederation in a group (e.g. 3 European teams, 2 S American teams, 2 African teams).

That grouping makes the most sense because 3 of 8 groups will definitely have a seeded AFC (Qatar) or CONMEBOL (Brazil and Argentina) team, with the other 5 European. By making one of the other 3 pots all European teams and having a pot consisting of African and CONCACAF... then lastly grouping AFC teams with the other CONMEBOL teams and the winner of that interconfederation playoff, they can draw our pot last in order to place them correctly in the groups without conflict. For example, we know Group A will be Qatar (seed 1 in groups B-H to be decided by the draw), so if the first team drawn from the pot containing AFC and CONMEBOL were an AFC team, that team would be placed in group B - or if they drew the AFC/CONMEBOL playoff winner that team would go into the next group that didn't have AFC or CONMEBOL as 1st seed.

By the same logic, if Brazil we hypothetically drawn in Group C, and they were to draw a CONMEBOL team from the pot containing AFC and CONMEBOL at the stage they were filling Group C, they would place that team into Group D (assuming Argentina were not earlier drawn into group D). It's all very easy, there are 3 groups to avoid when drawing pot 4 teams, depending on the team that is drawn. So AFC teams will have a strong chance of playing Brazil, Argentina or face a European pot 1 team, whereas the first of 2 CONMEBOL teams or the interconfederational playoff winner from CONCACAF v OFC will be guaranteed to be placed in group A with Qatar. The interconfederation playoff CONMEBOL team has NO chance to be drawn with Qatar as they could lose the playoff to the AFC team, and there can't be 2x AFC teams in a group.

We should root for Fifa to go with geographical pots now as we currently have a 1.5% chance of being pot 2 based on ranking, scroll to the bottom of this link

No change in latest Fifa ranking still 21st

                              Japan and Korea move up
                              Saudis and Ausis move down

TM is still 21st yet it's score went up by 12 points. https://www.fifa.com/fifa-world-rank...dateId=id13554 The situation is still fluid. We are less than six points behind Wales (20th) and 13 points behind Colombia (20th). There is still a small chance of making it to top 16 if we keep moving up and certain teams don't make it to the WC. If Sweden and Senegal don't make it and we make it to the 19th (doable), we will be top 16 since either Italy or Portugal will not make it (they way the UEFA playoff draw has shaped up). We need to win the next two matches (very difficult in Seoul but doable) but we don't have full control over the situation. Too many variables, that's why I said it's a small chance.
