That part is exciting. Kia ditched basically all players who wont be eligible for olympics, except khodabandelou at DM. For olympics we are allowed 3 (maybe 4?) over age limit players. Clearly Khodabandelou who with Yasin is leader of the team will be one of those guys, others yet to be determined (may not even be necessary). Right back might be a position they look at if they get that far, somebody like Hardani.

Rest of the current list + Houshmand, Allahyar, Delfi, Hosseinzadeh, Nokhodkar, etc all fit age requirement for 2024.

really? I doubt it would mess up the dynamic, both are great guys and can be leaders. But, if this group do well enough to get to olympics for first time in 50 years they deserve to have their chance to shine there. Azmoun and Taremi dont need any more tournaments to up their international acclaim.

Right back is a position we really suck at in this age bracket (as evidenced by the Gol Bezan list - nobody was included whose position is naturally RB) so makes sense to bring one who is a bit older. It would be a nice chance for hardani given that he is only marginally too old for the olympics anyways.

If 3 is the limit I guess it is pretty tempting to take one of Azmoun/Taremi if they are interested.

Anyways, fun to think about but so much planning, sacrifice, and dedication will be required to get us to that point. There is a reason we have failed for almost half a century.

To play in the Olympics is still a dream for many people. The Europeans don't care as much, but the South American senior players fight to get the overage spots because they want a medal badly.

I could see a similar dynamics happening in TM Omid. Plus let's be honest, they would add alot to the team in terms of experience and capability. Agree on RB, but maybe someone shows up and impresses in the next 2 years for everyone's sake.

He was sharp, honest, friendly and straight
Only he had one factual error regarding age issue.
He insisted Iran team is 2 year younger than Iraq . He said Iran is participating with U21 with exception of Khoda (Iraqi refer to Khodabandeloi). When Iraqi reporter remind him of mistake, he insisted on his words.

U23 left Iran without 2 MIS players, Arrangement was made so they will fly to Iraq or Istanbul before going to Tashkent.

Next two games are critical bor all 3 team but if MIS can defeat SNA at home or Fajr lose a game , then Hasheminasab & Ahmadi can join U23 team without need for last game.
Unfortunately bad weather delayed this games.
Will MIS club release these two players on time?

It seems games of MIS-SNA , TT - Fajr is on schedule again for later today but not Shahrekhodro

MIS last game is in Tehran versus undefeated Esteghlal so their only hope is today's game.
Shahrekhodro has no prayer against Persepolis in Tehran trying not to lose 2nd rank, their hope is at home against Nekonam team.
Fajr need to not lose today and hope for an upset at home versus Persepolis , unlikely

Reflection on the first match
U23

Fans :
Iraqi fans have more fun with games than Iranian, National teams game are about fun, patriotism
Coverage:
Their Media and TV coverage are better than Iran . Pre and after gamrs interview and coverage was good, respectful unlike in Iran that mostly is Chaos ,disrespect and incomplete.
Reporting was good and TV commentators, analyst and experts were mature, respectable with reasonable knowledge.

Game:
Iran was a better team and Deseve the win.
Team structure during first half and defense system was solid. Zavari, Khoda and Salmani controlled the center with defensive duties but Yasin was free to initiate counters and offensive drive from the MF. Khoda concentrated on defense but tried his chances with long shots.
Khodaei as RB struggled against Mustafa ( in place of Sartip ). he was not in Harmoney with Sadeghi who had not a good day.
Sadeghi underestimated Mirkham who is very good RB but even when he moved to center wasted a best opportunity inside the box to extend the lead to 2 goals.
Amir jafari did well versus Ali Majid and he solidified himself as starter against Qatar.
Parsa Jafari l ( Zobahan GK) was confident without major error in his first international game. Kakhsaz was the first choice but he came to Iraq late.
Fallah was solid but made 2 big mistakes . He knew better CB should not advance if his back is not secure and risk of advance must be necessary. Mkia was not pleased with those choices,
Arya was good and delivered the opportunity he was given by his teammate Salmani,
Rest of players were ok.

Ahmadi and Hasheminejad seem like Kia's likely choice for LB and RB right? Hamedifar I think is competing with Zavari for spot in midfield next to Khodabandelou and Yasin.
