I mean coming from CL and 4 secured games against Juventus and Chelsea to OL and Euro league plus an OL which is struggling right at the beginning of the season! very disappointing [emoji20]

2 matches against PSG and Europa league where they’ll enter knockout stages and face other big clubs throughout their run > getting demolished against Chelsea and Juventus with no service to Sardar

Lyon has made some other interesting signings like Shaqiri and are apparently trying to get Neres from Ajax too. Their team is much better than what Zenit is working with

It’s a lateral move maybe on paper. But in reality, it’s an upgrade even if it’s not a significant upgrade.

At least in Ligue 1 he’d be out of Russia and challenging him outside a trash league that is now even ranked below Scottish league

At Lyon he’ll get more exposure than he’s ever gotten in Zenit

A great season at Lyon (if it goes through) and he backs up what he has done at Zenit. The Russian league quality is decreasing each season and scouts etc will be aware of this. He shows he can do it in a top 5 (6th now 😅) league and he can reassess again next year.

It looks as if Sardar wants to go to Lyon and has been having conversations with the coach who really wants him, we all know that Sardar needs that confidence and want in him to perform his best.

yes guys but we are not talking about an 18yr who needs attention but someone who has proven himself and does not habe 3 more years in a tier 2 league like france before making it to a large team. Think about it OL < Porto and Taremi is their star. Sardar deserves much better than OL!

move is still not 100%. azmoun might still re sign with zenit or go in winter or summer as bosman.

Although he deserves better, i hope the moves goes through. With Memphis gone and the coach being after him for years, he could become their main point in attack. Lyon certainly got the quality to have a deep run in the EL and fight for spot 2-3 in the league. 15+ goals in the league, 5+ in the EL and who knows which clubs come knockin next year. Afterall its the league of the world champions and in my opinion the league with the most talents.

If he delivers at Lyon then the next step can only be one of the real top clubs. We will know more in the next 72 hours.

Well if Ronaldo returns to ManU for 23 million I think anything north of 20 million is zenit just being greedy. Let him go already. Any league in Western Europe is better than RPL for Sardar particularly if its a short term contract.

Since being 17 year old, Azmoun is hyped as the Iranian messi in the international football medias, scored a lot for Iran with a WC experience, scored against prestigious teams in UCL and EL and finally teared the Russian league two years in a row. All these for what? A mild interest from teams like lazio leverkusen.. that's make him stay too long in Russia.

It's not his fault if Lyon is the only team to be really interested. Next year, top teams will never bet on an exotic players of 27 years old that spend all its career in Russia. Generally Russian export don't do so well in western Europe league (semak for example), we will see how Azmoun will adapt in France.

The more he stays in Russia, the less he will get prestigious offer, free or not. He could even score some goals against Juventus and Chelsea, it would be overshadowed by all the other big games (psg/ city, group B, bayern/barca, real/inter..) and all the goals zenit will concede

The transfer markets have truly changed now.

Only the top 10-20 clubs will buy/sell at very high prices or just wait for free transfers and offer crazy salaries.
Smaller clubs will try very small transfers and youth development.

Going forward, unless you're a superstar, or a 17 year old wunderkind with a money laundering agent, you will not get a big transfer fee.

In France lyon is a huge team. 60k stadium, crazy fans, top city, renowned for producing/showcasing some of the top talent in europe.

2 years ago they were in a CL semi final where they even pushed bayern for an hour and missed some crazy chances before eventually getting put to bed. Remember they knocked out man city on the way there. The team is largely the same now minus depay and a couple minor players.

Their roster is littered with talent in midfield zone. Pacqueta, Bruno Guimaraes are full Brazil internationals at age of 24, 23. Shaqiri signed from liverpool. Aouar had a dip in form last year but before that everybody remembers how much Pep was raving about him during CL, still one of europes finest midfield talents. Rayan Cherki is one of the best 18yr old wings in europe. Caqueret another hugely talented 21 yr old CM.

Defensively they are weak. That is why they barely missed out on CL last season. Denayer is regular for Belgium but nothing special, the other cb is probably gonna be quite weak unless a kid from academy makes huge impact this year. LB they signed emerson from chelsea which was quite a good pickup as a lot of top italian sides wanted him.

Obv ligue 1 isnt amazing, but a lot of people are taking note this year, obviously there is messi and PSG but very exciting projects taking place in Marseille, Rennes, monaco, and Nice this year. All super talented young sides who will compete in europe as well. This is also without mentioning last year shock champion lille.

In a way the naive nature of french football suits a profile like azmoun. A lot of very talented, but young defenders who still make some childish mistakes as they grow. A lot of naive teams who play fast, entertaining, attacking football but leave big spaces for counter attacks. He is 26, experienced a huge amt for his age (CL, EL, Relegation battles, title battles for different teams, WC, 2x asian cup, dips in form, hot streaks, hype, big disappointments, etc) and can take advantage of that to really be the star guy from day 1.

plus at 26 it gives him 2 years to perform and still have time for a really marquee big transfer.

totally agreed. And most of the "big money" deals you are seeing, i.e Abraham to roma are very deceiving if people dont read the details.

5 mio this summer plus 30 million spread out over 4 years is not comparable to paying 20mio cash up front of a player. Its a considerably smaller financial burden on the clubs balance sheet.

yea most all transfer fees (especially those Large figure ones) are paid gradually to the selling club over the term of the player contract at the host club ....!
Zenit werent really hurting for cash per say ....?? so i think their demands for a min 20mil Upfront were mostly just a way to turn off possible suitors for Sardar from even making an initial offering for him ... this way they can more easily convince him to extend contract ..!! ? lol ?
