AK8 in La Liga would have been unreal. Obviously talent was there, but the mental makeup was seriously lacking.

Our new sets of Legionares are not nearly as talented as the previous generation, but it appears as a whole they come with much more professionalism and drama. The few from the golden generation (Kia, Daei, and Vahid) have set a good example for the youngsters. And let’s not neglect the influence of CQ on our present generation.

Taremi: beyond goals and assists, there is a curious fact that stands out

The Iranian leads the penalties suffered in the Liga since 2019/20.

It is not only by goals or assists that the impact of a striker is measured and, in the case of Mehdi Taremi, a curious fact that stands out in the Super Cup was highlighted: the penalties suffered.

Since arriving in Portugal in early 2019/20, the Iranian has been knocked down in the area twelve times, nine with Rio Ave and three with the FC Porto shirt. As far as the championship is concerned, and taking the same period as a sample, Taremi leads this record with outstanding penalties, twice the second player, Carlos Júnior, from Santa Clara; Marega, with four, is right behind.

For the Vila do Conde team, the striker had also suffered a penalty in the game against Marinhense, for the Portuguese Cup, and the last maximum penalty was scored in the Super Cup, for lack of Vlachodimos, Benfica goalkeeper.

This record by Taremi is complemented with other data that help to understand the impact of the spearhead in the offensive maneuver, as well as the difficulties that it causes to the opponents, in the mixture of technique with physical print. For example, when he was substituted at 76 ", against Benfica, Taremi was the player with the most fouls suffered (five). On the other hand, with 356 minutes played in the I Liga (less than half of the possible ones), Taremi is the player with more touches in the area for 90 minutes - 6.75 Indicators that make Taremi a danger on the loose in the area, with the particularity of also doing well in the execution of penalties: last season, he converted all seven attempts and, already in 2020/21, he scored a penalty for Iran.

I was wondering when they were going to catch on....it's no secret anymore. Teams have to adjust to prevent a Taremi penalty. I wonder if he will get fouled outside the box more often.

He is one difficult puzzle to solve!

Dragon 'closes' new 9: Taremi grows and gains confidence from Conceição
Iranian striker has been instrumental in recent matches. Against Benfica, he conquered the penalty that opened the Super Cup marker and started to draw the way for the first title of the season.

Taremi and Marega together? If both are in shape and if the opponent asks for a more refined player and one capable of opening spaces, obviously yes. It depends a lot on my strategy for the game. Toni and Evanilson are compatible, Díaz and Toni are compatible, as well as Díaz and Evanilson . It depends on what we want for the game. Basically, I want to take advantage of weaknesses that the opponent may have. I don't want to lift the veil anymore, but they are compatible ".

It was in this way, on December 4 , that Sérgio Conceição answered a question about the possibility of Taremi starting at the side next to Marega , this at a time when the Porto reinforcement totaled just 319 minutes played, when Marega , indisputable, counted 508 minutes.

Since then, the pair has proved to be successful against the opposing goals, being undone only in less demanding games, such as the matches against Marseille , for the Champions, and against Paços de Ferreira, counting for the Portuguese Cup.

It is enough to say that the journalist's question served as a premonition for what was yet to happen, but how influential has the Iranian been and what can he still do to improve?

Arriving in Portugal last season at the age of 27, Mehdi Taremi was one of the revelations of last season. Landing on Portuguese soil with no European experience, with the shirt of Rio Ave, the striker earned the second best scoring mark of his career - best only in 202016/17, for Persepolis , when he made 24 in 37 matches.

With 21 goals in 37 games, now advanced FC Porto was coveted by the end of the season by the big three, but would eventually move stock and barrel to the Dragon. however, signing a relatively dim start.

After a few months, the Iranian, already more worked, starts to come out as a unique option to pair with Marega , the undisputed front of the attack, earning points to Luís Díaz and also to Toni Martínez and Evanílson , who are now second options .

In the last five games, only two did not start at the beginning, facing, as we have already seen, Paços de Ferreira and Marseille . In the last match, he won the penalty that opened the scoring in Aveiro, against Benfica, but in the previous match he had already attended and signed a performance that left good indications.

Against Tondela, the game before Paços, where he played only 5 minutes, Taremi added 73 on the field, scoring a goal. Before that, against Tondela, again, he had also helped with a goal, in a match that ended with a 4-3 on the scoreboard.

Since being on the pitch as a starter, the match following Manchester City, the Dragon only knows how to win, and the former Rio Ave striker therefore begins to assume himself as a serious case for the 'permanent' title, confirming the credits that led to your hiring.

He must be such an anomaly for them. Coming from teams that the portuguese have never even heard of to cannoning into the top scorer lists then making a big impact at their biggest club. No doubt he has altered some scouting philosophies...

Agree with this, they are now trying to find the next Mehdi Taremi. It is no coincidence that this Summer Alipour and Moghanlou have arrived after Mehdi’s performances last season.

Taremi sees supercup as the start

The triumph in the Supertaca was still being digested, but Taremi (in the photo) already wants more. The FC Porto striker even considers that this achievement was the "lowest goal he achieved. "I won the first trophy for FC Porto, which was a big dream for me. I have big goals in my head and I hope to achieve them playing well", said Iranian to an elevation of his country, assuming "very happy" for having given a joy to his fans. "Although small, considering the circumstances, I am proud of have been able to bring a smile to your lips", he said.

This smells a bit AFC-ish to me. A suspension 4 months after the incident???

he is their smartest, most creative mid imo. Will be a loss but 2 games is not a big deal. The vitoria game tomorrow will be a hard fixture tho. Mbemba I think is injured from last game, impressive youngster leite will prob slot in next to pepe.

                              Expecting the following:

                              -----------------Marchesin-------------

                              Manafa-------Leite----Pepe----Zaidu

                              Corona------Sergio----Uribe----Diaz

                              -------------Marega----Taremi-------

Biggest storyline tomorrow besides porto NEEDING a win to cut the gap between them and sporting to 4 pts, is Quaresma facing his old side. He is in great form and the biggest threat for porto D Line tomorrow.

the battle for the title is really shaping up to be a great one. Carvahal's Braga won again today which means they are in thick of it too with Sporting, Benfica, Porto. Looks like a 4 horse race.
