Azmoun with a mostly lackluster and lethargic performance
entering late, couldnt get up to speed and the intensity of the match

coulda created a couple of dangerous chances to put the game away but his touches were a bit too heavy for intended targets

didnt really help d much either, and on a CK lost his marker who nearly scored header, which luckily hit the woodwork and then again missed the rebound from 2 yards out

Only potential addition on deadline day is a Russian CB/RB. Ideally somebody who is a CB but can cover RB slot.

Wendel from Sporting, 23 y/o CM joins for 20 million.

Kuzyaev, russian NT CM, who was on great form to end the season tried to seal euro transfer as free agent (hoffenheim, alaves, valencia were the teams he was in negotiations with) but failed. Zenit renewed with him for 3 years. For russian standards he is probably one of their best central midfielders when fit and in form.

So no transformative signings but some solid ones and the squad is definitely better. Will it be enough to go through in CL remains to be seen. They really need malcom to step up and take their game up a level. Hopefully wendel can help give proper ball advancement and technical ability to their mid line.

good news is azmoun+dzyuba look in excellent form again, speed of defense was improved by adding lovren.

Intersting how many chances he gets at good level lol. Atalanta, Sampdoria, Zenit 2x, now La Liga. He is not a bad player but seriously lacks consistency. If a player like rigoni can get so many good looks imo there is no reason a winger like Gholizadeh can't besides his passport.

It's pretty much the same midfield as last year + Wendel and Zenit didn't really get dominated much in the last UCL. Had a chance to move to the round of 16 till the matchday 6

Idk the only team I can see dominating them Forsure would be Dortmund other than that Lazio could depend on how they line up. I think they should move Santos to DM along with Barrios and Wendell in front of them to give them that South American flare. In defense the young left back has been decent and lovren and Rakitskyvare CL veterans and good players overall. Their RB is kind of meh but other than that they shouldn’t be counted out to make it to the next round
