CQ was without a doubt the best Coach in TM-History;his fighting spirit, gheyrat, coaching experience and resume, love for our people and players, honesty, dedication and defensive tactics and organization are unparalleled. He created a disciplined Team with excellent Team spirit and Chemistry. Moreover he was the only one who could take us to two successive WC , where the second qualification was stress free. In our current circumstances CQ was the best possible Coach for TM.

If we want to look at some minor negative aspects on CQ reign (which is a huge luxury and almost blasphemy given our current situation), i would criticize that they were games were we should have had more self-confidence in our attacking game (f.e. against Japan, Portugal and even Spain).

The other thing is, that under CQ we had only played two Asian Powerhouses in non-friendly games: 1.) South Korea defeating them 3 times in a Raw which is impressive and 2) Japan where we unfortunately lost in a bad way with 3-0. Unfortunately we were not able to Test ourselves against KSA and Australia. Also i think that we had our problems with Iraq even under CQ: we have won one friendly and lost one at home, we were eliminated from AC 2015 by Iraq and we didn't perform to well against Iraq in AC 2019 (Game have ended 1-1) either.

Against all other Asian Teams that we had played namely: Oman, Kirghistan, Kuwait, Vietnam, Yemen, China, Palestine, Guam, Maldives, Turkmenistan, India, Qatar, China, Uzbekistan, Lebanon, Bahrain, UAE we looked dominant.

Interesting to note is, that even under CQ we had struggled to defeat Arab Teams on their turf, f.e.: Draw against Bahrain in Maname in WCQ 2014, Draw against Jordan in Amman in a friendly, Losing to Lebanon in WC 2014, Draw against Oman in ACQ 2015, Draw against Kuwait in ACQ 2015, Draw against Syria in home and away game in WCQ 2018. I think our bad results against Arab Teams, when facing them in an away game, is just a mental thing which no Coach on the planet can take away from us...

You are a great member and I enjoy reading your posts. You do not need to be an expert in Tm Stats to know that CQ won nothing in his 8 years at the helm. He gave us what our football level is and has been in its history not one inch more. Had he taken us to at least a finals in Asian Cup or advanced from the group stage we could claim he added value but giving just less than what is expected even is not the best coach in our history. He is not even the best foreign coach in TM history let alone the best coach. Let us not forget we won 3 Asian cups in a row and qualified to the world cup as the only team from Asia. How is he better than a coach that lifted the Asian cup?! Both Branko and Mayeli Kohan have won bronze at the Asian cup playing good football how are they worst than CQ 6 place finis or semi final destruction at the hands of Japan?!

The federation is not efficient enough to do anything about our football. CQ was the single reason that our team got such consistent results during the past 8 years.

From all accounts of our 1978 team, Peru did stomp us. Under CQ we would have beat them since Peru is weaker now then in 1978.

Please note for your love of attavking football...parking the bus...catenaccio... defeated Dutch total football and won Italy a world cup in 1982.

CQ was as good of a coach as we would’ve gotten. No other coach of his caliber or better would’ve put up with the issues/hurdles he had to jump through. He was paid well and could’ve pushed for better friendlies and at times played more attacking football, but overall was as good of a coach for 8 years as we could’ve had. After 8 years it was time to move on. Our next coach needs to understand, this job is like none other and they need to be more of a strong personality and flexible with the IRAN/IFF situation as they are a good coach. Wilmots may do well other places but clearly he is not able to not get paid/deal with issues and still get results for Iran. If he was coaching another team he may do well because he wouldn’t have outside pressures to deal with, but could focus on futbol. Getting a top class coach will not happen for this team under the current situation and if it does it won’t last.

Since this is about Cq positives I am only going to talk about the positives. He has instilled discipline; he has structured our team defense; he has changed generations successfully and has introduced youngsters to our football which he has tested and given valuable experience to; he is one of the hardest working coaches if not in the world (which I believe he very well could be) but definitely in our football; he has shown us a winning formula and attitude as he does not compromise on anything, he is a perfectionist and very detailed oriented and I hope he has passed this on to other people in the federation; he has created a fair and competitive player selection regime where players know if they work hard and shine they can be included in TM; he is a great analyzer and is one of the best in the world; he is very respectful when dealing with players, no longer players have to put up with coarse language from coaches; he is respectful of our culture.

Both are great coaches and have worked hard in our football. I dont know about who has what in their heart but Cq is definitely more demanding and I am assuming perhaps i am wrong but he is more detailed oriented as well.

This is one of the things I admire about CQ. He is a real coach who has 0 bias in his selection. I would trust his selection over any of these analysts and experts making lists from their couches at home. Also I believe whoever says CQ is not watching the league is absolutely wrong. He has proven time and time again that not only does he watch and follow the league but he does it with extreme detail and professionalism. Just look at the people he has brought on, some no one even knew about but here they are. A good example would be Gholizadeh..

The problem is that we just end up going in circles again.

Even when she/he finally accepted that Ivankovic was officially the coach of the full TM BEFORE taking the U23 squad to the Asian Games, he/she didn't accept that the "stats" from the IRperspolis social media account were wrong because

There isn't any pride let alone logic in accepting that a source can be wrong, especially if it relies on a partisan social media fan account.



But at least we can mention his/her appraisal from just a few months before the end of CQ's 8 year career as above.
