It is a big upgrade for somebody lke mehrdad guys. He is not taremi, playing in dead last team of portugal and not even getting his wages paid. In general portuguese clubs besides top 4 are good place to develop/show yourself for 1-2 years but not to stay any longer. They lack infrastructure, big fan bases, etc to be a real pinnacle of somebodies career.

St. Ettiene and Montpellier are both big clubs in their own right with modern, large stadiums that are typically packed. The league is littered with talents which is not really the case in portugal after the top teams. Sure the league isnt on level of PL, Bundesliga, Serie A, La Liga, but it exports much of the talent that now dominates those leagues. Im not sure what french teams lack of success in europe has to do with somebody like mehrdad, he is currently on last placed team in portugal and its not like portuguese teams have any success in europe either of late.

Overall for Mehrdad's profile it would represent a cool move.

league 1 action sorta bores me ...!!
but such a move would be a significant uptick and very exciting and quick advancement in Mehrad's overall career... especially so quickly after leaving the tokhmy IPL...!

Right....it’s not even a debate. Ligue 1 is better on so many levels especially the named clubs. Unless he was going to go to Porto or Benfica (which he never was) then this would be a major upgrade. Now he gets to play against bigger clubs, players, and train/play with better players. Big win for mehrdad if he can secure on of these moves

Without psg ligue 1 would have been on par with belgian league

From the quote inarsenewetrust posted, it states Mehrdad Mohammadi is the one who is interested in France and wants to go to Ligue 1...

Lille and st Étienne does very bad in European competition. The same with the rest even if Monaco and Marseille do good things once every ten years. Lyon is a step better but nothing crazy either

I think you are getting side tracked on an irrelevant topic (which I by the way agree with you about). What we should focus on is if this is a good move for mehrdad. Firstly he is not a TM regular, even a TM sub, or even a semi-regular TM callup. Secondly he plays for dead last team in Portugal. Lastly the French league is better than the portuguese league in pretty much all metrics.

Taking that into account any move to St ettiene, Montpellier, is an upgrade and a great move for him. Probably the max he could achieve.

Ok they may be close, but it’s still not fair to say its a downgrade from Portugal or Belgium. (Example: PSG-Beveren, St. Étienne-Charleroi). Ligue 1 is still part of top-5 league.

Of course it is better than the dead last of the Portuguese league. Personnally, I would favor a team like Braga of even Celtic who could offer him Europa or champions league.
French clubs think they are bigger than they actually are and are extremely skeptical about iranian players. Btw, the first link even say Montpellier and St Etienne didn't move for him.

Says they hold interest but havent moved for him yet. Tbf few teams are moving decisively in the market yet.

St Étienne has the best atmosphere of France. Derby with Lyon is a highlight of French league.
They will play the French cup final against PSG this Friday

Surprisingly st Étienne fans are mostly okay with this potential transfer, bar the expected joking about his name (merde in french means shit)
