Regardless of age, I don’t think anyone can deny that he had an immensely talented squad at his disposal when in charge of Belgium ..!
I agree that I don’t know a whole lot about Wilmots coaching abilities but his short-stint flop @ similar to TM talented but usually underachieving Ivory Coast certainly doesn’t inspire much confidence ..!

Also reading this article before he begin his stint @ Ivory Coast correctly predicting his imminent failure with the elephants makes me even more nervous about his appointment..!

Well, seeing how those teams have been our historical AFC tournament stumbling blocks, probably a good idea to continue to play friendlies against them. Once WC prep rolls around, then we can moan and groan about non-Asian friendlies.

I'm on board for the fact that CQ was probably the only coach who got us consistent results against Arab opponents.

Even under the Branko era we basically saw too much of the mentality that "We are Iran, this should be easy" and that led to us into 0-0 ties with Bahrain/Thailand/North Korea. It's scary how people forget that it was not that long ago.

What's even scarier is that Branko had the likes of Karimi, Mahdavikia, Hashemian, Daei and still struggled against Arab teams while CQ simply dominated Arab/Korean teams with sub-par to above average talent that were simply disciplined.

Things dont look too good between Morocco and Renard. I still think we should go for him. If IFF was smart (LOL) they would sign a deal with him now and then have a caretaker run the team until he comes.

We almost didn't make the second round of AFC qualifying after that home loss to Jordan in the preliminary round, or when Hashemian saved us against Qatar.

He had three consecutive losses against Jordan in August 2002, September 2003 and June 2004 (at home in WCQ)
Lost against Kuwait 3-1 in December 2003, lost against Iraq at home in August 2003
Lost against Korea 2-0 in 2005, Lost against Japan in 2005

In a group with Japan, North Korea, and Bahrain where the top 2 automatically qualify.

We almost were eliminated the round prior. I don't know what you mean by "Comfortable" but we were twice in danger of being eliminated in the first round. 10 minutes away from elimination against Jordan.... 2 minutes away from being eliminated vs Qatar.
