yes but given the closeness of each match (either tie or decided by one goal), AND given the fact it was still this close even with two clear favorites, makes it the group of death.

yes, some events worked in our favor. And I, personally, would have liked to have seen more attacking football.
But lets not get ahead of ourselves. We, in terms of standards, were waayyy behind Morocco, let alone Portugal & spain.

He has some valid points. But he shd keep the perspective and our abilities in mind before expressing disappointment why we didn't advance from the freaking GROUP OF DEATH!!!!!!

    ridiculous

A coach doesn't have to be a big name coach to be good. Even the big ones were at some point in their careers unknown.

The fact that we still don't have high caliber Iranian coaches is also another testament to CQ not being as good as his fanboys like to claim in 8 years he could have passed his knowledge to plenty of Iranian coaches but hasn't since he usually works with foreign coaches and doesn't get along with Iranian coaches. Not that blame lies with him only, obviously the federation and Iranian clubs are also to blame for this.
can you please elaborate what you think IR would do with the money saved by hiring a less expensive coach ? I guess you must think IFF has a long track record of using money wisely and any money saved on hiring a cheap coach will be directly used for building infrastructure for our footballing nation ......

Some younger members don't know but Houman Afazeli was a PFDC Forum Staff and also very valuable member (username "houman") with insight to TM when he was working under Blazevic and later Ivankovic. He doesn't post anymore since over 10 years or so but sometimes occasionally does visit the forums and reads our threads.
We can all disagree with him or agree with him, but I request all to please use a cleaner language and some sort of respect to our former forum staff.

He has a different opinion on CQ than most of us, and he has the right to have his own opinion and even go public. He didn't insult or use bad language talking about the person he criticizes, and so neither he deserves bad and insulting language from others.

    Keep it clean! Plz!

well from an objective point of view, he is right criticizing CQ because by doing so he gets the attention which he was lacking from Iranian media. Now they quote Afazeli and at least people start talking about him! Typical move if you try to make yourself important although in fact Afazeli is the opposite and by his lack of knowledge, he has proven his weakness to everybody.

Some members here seem to think we have better facilities and long-term opportunities compared to Morocco. Let me remind those people that 16 of the players for Morocco weren't even born in Morocco. A quick search will show you that these players were born in France, Netherlands, Spain, Italy... and have continued to ply their trade in those leagues.
That means that they were in top European league youth systems from the very start, which is very different than playing in the streets until you eventually get a break to play for an organized youth team - still, with limited money and facilities. Please don't compare the two!

I keep on hearing how great CQ did and how we almost qualified for the second round if it wasn't for Taremi's miss... but no one mentions that our victory over Morrocco involved a large amount of luck, without which we would have finished on 2 points. Other then the Azmoun one on one in the Morocco game, iran didn't manage to create a single goal scoring opportunity from open play (broken plays not included).
I don't understand this mentality. First of all Iran kept the pressure up and created the situation for the own goal to be possible: Saman's tenacity in getting the foul, the perfect cross from Ehsan, and streaking players in the back that would have overwhelmingly likely scored had not the OG occurred.

But more importantly, football always has a bit of luck this way or that way. If we got a bit lucky with Morocco, Diego Costa got insanely lucky with his bouncy-ball knee-goal, Taremi was unlucky not to score on the header vs Spain, Portugal was lucky not to play with 10 men, Taremi was unlucky not to score the final goal.

How far are you willing to take this defeatest mentality? Was Gucci lucky to score on SK to qualify for WC 14? Maybe we shouldn't have played in that world cup?? Was Iran lucky to have a hooligan rip down the net in Australia in '97 thereby slowing Aussie momentum and allowing us back in the game? Maybe we shouldn't have been in WC98.

Don't forget Iran's own goal in WC78 led to a 1-1 tie w Scotland rather than a 3 pt win. An own goal that ended arguably our most dominant footballing generation.

    Definition of fanboy:

An extreme fan or follower of a particular medium or concept, whether it be sports, television, film directors, video games (the most common usage), etc.
Known for a complete lack of objectivity in relation to their preferred focus. Usually argue with circular logic that they refuse to acknowledge. Arguments or debates with such are usually futile. Every flaw is spun into semi-virtues and everything else, blown to comedic, complimentary proportions.

Can anybody deny this forum has/had Branco fanboys?
Can anyone deny this forum has CQ fanboys (above definition)?

Only true fanboys can deny this

That's a matter of perspective 50% less or a million less is considerably less money. I should have said less money not little money, appologies.

    Oh wait, never mind.
Fanboy is not an insult, it simply means someone who is excessive in their support of something or someone. At least that's what it is supposed to mean.

He is however by all accounts a great assistant coach.

    1. Renard already stated that he wants a pay raise from the 1 Million he already gets paid, after less than 2 years. How much did CQ get in his first years?

    2. As much as i love Iran, but are we really going to compare Moroccos lifestyle with irans? Plus nearly every moroccan speaks french.

    3. As a lot of times mentioned by CQ himself and some members of IFF, like Kaffashian and Taj, CQ had to pay some costs of TM and the coaching staff.
