    2018 Asian Games - Iran U23

    Hi Everyone,

So we are not too far off from Iran's participation in the event. Our U23 side should be quite bolstered with the players that we have, and this can also prove as a training ground for any newer player who can capture the interest of CQ for a potential call up to the Asian Cup.

Lets post all news and pictures in regards to the event all on here.

What happens if we win? Is it a qualification for anything bigger i.e. Olympics?

no it's just the Asian Games. and while it's for U23 teams some countries send their U21 teams to prepare them for the Olympics in 2 years.

          Questions.

          1. When will the squad be announced?
          2. Is our team going to use wild cards [3 players over the age of 23]?
          3. From our World Cup team, it seems only Majid Hosseini and Saeed Ezatollahi are under 23. I wonder if they will get called up?

I don’t think any of legioners can go since the teams don’t have to release players for these games
They should just stick to domestic u21 players

I would just invite 5 u19 players, mainly u21 players, some u23 and perhaps 1 or 2 over 23 players.

It all depends on CQ's and Kranjčar's relationship, and also the willingness of the teams to release their players. According to the rules, anyone born on and after Jan 1 1995, is eligible to be selected for the team.

Current, former and potential players (who were called up team melli) like the ones mentioned below should be available for selection. Plus the program that introduced us to Mahan Baghdadi (the Iranian youth player who played in Sweden) could be set in place as well, which is why I included the "others" section.

                GK:

                1- Payam Niazmand (Apr 6 1995 --> 23) (Sepahan)

                2- Nima Mirzazad (21) (Nassaji)

                3- Mehdi Amini (22) (Paykan)

I hope this time 3 wild card players go. Maybe those who did not go to the World Cup or did not get a chance to play.
eg. Jalal Hosseini (he went twice as wild card before), Pezhman Montazari, Voriya Ghafouri, Reza Ghoochannejhad.
