Like all of you I wish him the very best and thank him for a great service to Team Meli and the people.
Good thing he brought Karim who scored the penalty in such a high pressure situation

He's not good enough to be guaranteed playing time if he doesn't fit in the formation, simple as that.

I like the guy but this is a very selfish way to leave.

What's even more annoying people who know nothing about football saying he should've played over sardar

I hope he reconsiders and stays until after the Asian Cup. He can help us a lot there, especially that now there are 24 teams and 1 more game from the knockout stage.

Wish him well and hope he will come back. He deserves a lot more. I know it is frustrating to have helped so much and not played. He must have rubbed CQ the wrong way somehow someway!
That is no excuse and he should have been subbed in. I think because CQ only had 3 subs, he probably couldn't afford not to sub in the exact player he wanted.

Yes I agree with comments on how he is emotional, and likely manipulated by his wife. Not thanking Carlos is a huge misstep but I understand how he is disappointed. I personally think he deserved to play last 20 minutes of Portugal game, however CQ is a conservative coach so the decision to bring Milad instead of a attack minded substitution was nothing personal against Gucci, so I hope he comes to realize that.

When I initially saw this headline I was shocked...but after taking a minute to consider all the factors it isn’t hard to see the logic in this decision. Kaveh is on the rise in Belgium, karim is peaking in his career right now, and Azmoun is pretty much always going to be our starter.

What I do question, however, is the motivation behind it. The s could very well be an emotional move. He isn’t one who has ever shown any signs of having an ego but I wonder if he was pissed off for not getting an opportunity.

There’s going to be tons of rumors thrown around now from the media and the anti CQ camp or at least I anticipate this would be the case.

Thank Gucci. We’ll always have South Korea. It has been very evident that he is on a downhill of his career. Let’s be honest, no way he was going to make it to the Asian Cup over Kaveh. He was brought over for his wisdom and experience to help the young guys out in Russia.

I appreciate everything he's done for TM. He took us to Brazil and scored there. He scored at the Asian Cup. Despite all this, he is on the wrong side of 30 and with a plethora of young European strikers, it time to make way for the new guard. Thanks Gucci, best of luck on your club team

Some comments made by members like this one scares me. Yeah let’s totally bash someone who was major part of the 2014 WC qualifying

Guys why can't he retire if he wants? Maybe he has realized that he won't be having too much playing time any more, so won't be adding much to TM either and decided to just focus on his family life outside of Iran. No harm in that!
It's better to be realistic and realistically he will be our 3rd striker behind Azmoun, Ansarifard (maybe even Taremi and Kaveh).

I am really sad he retired.

Now it just hit me though. I wonder if he is going to join the Anti-CQ people like Ali Karimi in the coming weeks ans months and start bashing CQ?! You think he might do that considering his emotional way of saying goodbye all of a sudden and right efter arriving to Iran.

Dude, he's been Sardar's back-up for at least three years now.

What I didn't like is how many of you already said, the timing and the way he explained his decision.
He is saying " aghlam, shakhsiatam va ghoruram ejazeh nemidan edame bedam". He clearly missed adding his wife.
Also the point that he is thanking everyone except Queiroz is a bit unprofessional, since he was the person who made him "our Gucci" and gave him a chance to show his talent.

Yes for sure we will never forget all his last minute goals that saved us in so many games and his calm character, but I really do not get why someone like Gucci is questioning the decision of his coach he worked so long with and owes so much, in public during this time.

Also with all respect, the way his wife started this discussion was so damn unnecessary and had an influence on his text.
Isn't there anyone who can tell her, that we have so many other players who could have played for Team Melli but had to sit on the bench and even this was for them, an honor & something to be proud of!
Pas hamsarhaye Jalal Hosseini ya Vouria Ghafouri ham khoobe bian nazare karshenasi dar Instagram bedan.
I would not be surprised if he ends in the US soccer league...
