Hello everyone.
Today, I had the privilege of becoming the newest member of the PFDC family. Privilege because I am now among some of the most brightest and most knowledgeable individuals who have the deepest of love and affection towards Iran and the Iranian football. Believe me friends when I say that for the past 10 years, I have been spending at least 30 minutes each and everyday reading most of your comments on different threads and subjects. But because of a small technical issue that I was not able to fix until today, I could not become a member.
And so now that I am here, I can not wait to make my presence felt by bringing up a subject which has yet to be discussed in this forum. Although this subject looks totally negative, I bring it up from a positive perspective so that less than 2 weeks away from our first match against Morocco, we know where we stand and what our chances of getting into knock out stage are.
And so with your permission, this is the subject; With 8 losses, 3 draws and only one victory, and having conceded 22 goals while scoring only 7 goals in a total of 12 matches, Iran's total record in the past 4 world cups have arguably been the worst among all of the participating countries since the very first world cup in 1930 in Uruguay and up until the recent one in Brazil in 2014.
Although this record looks really unimpressive, it is not the entire story. There are positive things that happened among some of those 8 loses that we suffered which I wouldn't mind to discuss. But I would really like to have a one or two responses on the subject from any member if possible.

On the quoted portion of the post, I want to point out that this is only partially true, as there have been a number of nations (ex, Iceland) who hardly had any WC appearances to begin with. However, you are absolutely right in that Iran has generally had an abysmal showing at the world stage. I think this can be attributed to a number of factors. Inexperience at the top level (1978), bad luck (1998), mis-management (2006), lack of quality players (2014) and potentially in this coming series, opposition that is simply too tough to beat. One thing to consider though is our football's deficiencies at the international stage can generally be traced to deficiencies in the structure of our footballing system as a whole--from the youth level all the way to the top flight. Progress will take time, and much of our system needs reform. But I will say that there have been a couple inches of improvement for Iranian football as a whole over the past 6-7 years, so there's reason to be optimistic.

. It is good that you are seeing the general effects of the failures that Iran has suffered in the 4 previous world cups. I totally agree that in 2006 for example, the mismanagement and lack of unity in the team which had started months before the start of the first game against Mexico with major issues that the head of the sports ministry Ali Abadi had with the head of the IFF Mohammad Dadkan and had gone down and penetrated inside the team creating divisions between some players with one another in one hand and with the coaching staff in the other. In 2014, we didn't have the quality that we had in 2006, so you are right about 2014 also. And of course 1978 was our first appearance, so we couldn't expect much from our players. In the the game against Yugoslavia in 98, have we had Abedzadeh in goal, perhaps the out come of the game would be totally different.
