you guys think he got injured? i just watch highlights of the game and there seems to be a collision at the end of the game with hosseini and an uzbek player in the penalty area. afterwards CQ was giving the ref an earful. it did not watch the game, only highlights. but it could be the reason he is on stand by because the injury could only be a minor one and CQ doesn't want to announce it so he says he's getting old? lol

Again look at Jalal, from what i can tell he has posted no BS on social media regarding his exclusion.

Look at this wonderful man who has given his all for TM in the past few years.

Iran is truly a dark horse in this tournament. One of the best managers in the world, with the talent pool of a football crazy x-factor nation. I've said this before but 2018 is our year, idc who is in our group.

The reasons why Hosseini is dropped are not the criteria used for keeping Gucci vs Kaveh. First of all Gucci is not 36. So already what you are saying is not logically sound.

This is not Football Manager. The goal is to create the most balanced team possible for your World Cup. A CB duo of Montazeri-PAG, or Montazeri - M.Hosseini or M.Hosseini - PAG seems perfectly balanced and capable to me.

We all love Jalal and of course it hurts to be cut at the final moments... but if we build teams based on players we love, then lets bring back Nekou as well.

And this is all assuming Jalal is not called back from the standby list, which I think is perfectly possible before the world cup.
Are the standby players traveling with main team for prep games?

Many of us feel that it isn't a case of loving Jalal but that he is still the best CB for TM, whereas Nekounam was getting slower and losing his game-reading abilities and we needed to give the next generation a chance because there were better options towards the very end of his playing career. I still feel that Jalal is better and more consistent than the next generation even at 36.

Assuming he doesn't make the cut from the standby list, I could be completely wrong and I really hope I am.
I disagree. He's way too slow for the pace of Spain and Morocco's offense. They play quick passes and have explosive offensive players. I can imagine him conceding a penalty from someone like Isco or Nordin Amrabat running into the box. Not to say that Cheshmi is much better but I would be comfortable with PAG and Majid Hosseini.

I dunno man, I feel the opposite is the case when it comes to defenders and in particular centre backs. Older CBs rise to the fore and bring a calming influence or play out of their skin.

Paul McGrath in 1994 against Italy became less man, more superhuman. Players like Laurent Blanc just seemed to reach another level in their world cup teams. The unifying factor in many of the best centre-back performances in world cups are their ages at 30+ (I'm thinking Baresi, Couto, Passarella, Beckenbauer, Maldini).

Even for Iran, we have seen our 30+ age centre-back pairings be better in world cups than we expected (Mohammadkhani and Khakpour, Golmohammadi/Bakhtiarizadeh and Rezaei, Sadeghi and Hosseini).

As I said before, I trust CQ and hope this pays off.

CQ is the coach and he is responsible for TM and its roster/selection. So he can do whatever he wishes and he has every right to even cut an inform and young Hosseini if he wishes so. He just needs to explain his reasons so everyone is informed.
He, despite his big words and blind support he gets here from some, showed yet another example of his unprofessionalism despite being in business more than most members of this board being on this earth (and being a top 10 best paid coach of the world cup).
Every coach of every country cuts a player that surprises people, for what ever reason. The rookies do it like CQ (and don't come with the weak excuse that Hosseini didn't play the last 5 games so it wasn't out of blue. He didn't play half of our regulars and your excuses for the weak tactical play and line up was that CQ was trying to show us that players who play in Iran aren't fit and he's testing new players).
Professional coaches start by publicly hint at their decision, talk to the player way up front about their decision, and then ease the public into understanding why a big player isn't going to be selected. Hosseini is not a nobody and we shouldn't have found out about him not being selected only after the list was published.
Yet another example of big unprofessional failure by CQ who is the ”sarvar" of many here and is able to have one blooper after another without people saying "I like the guy, I support the guy, he's the best coach we have, but this could have been handled better".
Don't think CQ has to provide any explanation to you or me why he is has chosen the team that he has. He is a coach of a team not a PR person or a politician that relies on his communication and messages to win hearts. As long as his team does the best he is doing fine irrespective of how he communicate to us. So quit expecting a fully explained verbal communication on why he has dropped or chosen a player. Also remember the more he explains the more he is giving his thinking and tactics away. So better for us to accept it as it is and see what the outcome will be.

Both Montazeri and Hosseini are older and there's no way they would have managed together for 90 minutes against Spain or Portugal, even Morocco would have been pushing their limits.

So PAG was practically guaranteed a spot and it was between Hosseini and Montazeri. CQ decided to go with Montazeri. Now, if we're up 2-0 against Morocco and controlling the match, or down 3-0 against Spain with 15 minutes to go maybe he'll bring in one of the youngsters so they get some WC exposure and gain some experience at the highest level.

If Hosseini was there, there would be no benefit in bringing him in at the 75th minute of the match. He's not going to be noticed by scouts at his age and it's not like he's got years ahead of him as far as TM goes.

The only situation Hosseini could have been helpful was to switch him in game 2 with Montazeri and let the latter be a little rested for game 3 but I honestly don't think Jalal has either the speed or stamina at this point to deal with the Spanish offense - if match 2 was against Morocco, it may have been a different story.
To add to your comments, Montazeri could aslo be played as RB, just like WC2014 when he performed very well with some nice runs.
