Best foreign striker in Irans history has to be Luciano. He was so good that we actually tried to give him an Iranian citizenship so he can play for Iran. This was right before we had all our young strikers come up in the ranks.

We didn't, we are not Qatar and never will be. He himself expressed interest in playing for TM as he had stayed in Iran a sufficient amount to qualify for citizenship.Originally posted by Ali Doust View PostBest foreign striker in Irans history has to be Luciano. I think you are referring to Edinho and Olerum who tried to get citizenshipOriginally posted by Ali Doust View PostBest foreign striker in Irans history has to be Luciano. Mameye Babaye Thiam hast dige!
In all seriousness though, he is an amazing player. Total opportunist and brilliant finisher. One of the best foreign players in the history of our domestic league. Whoever scouted and brought him in must be rewarded dearly.
The sad part is though that by the end of this season, we most probably will see him gone. Gone to the Persian Gulf States leagues. Most probably an Emirati club, or Qatari. Sad but most probably true!

We never tried. He showed immense interest in becoming a citizen and playing for TM.Originally posted by Ali Doust View PostBest foreign striker in Irans history has to be Luciano. We're too racist and nationalist of a nation, to allow such practices being employed in our country. Something that has become a norm in today's world. We're too proud of a nation, disallowing other races getting what all civilized countries grant...

It's only been ONE month, so its early to say he is one of the best foreign players in history.Originally posted by Keano View PostMameye Babaye Thiam hast dige!

I don't think Esteghlal will let him go that easily. Mensha could've left too but wants to show loyalty to Iran.

And the comment was based on his one month performance. This one month he has performed way better than a huge majority of the rest of foreign players.Originally posted by naderb94 View PostIt's only been ONE month, so its early to say he is one of the best foreign players in history.

Next month or next year we will re-evaluate his then display and form. However for now we are allowed to rate his game! [emoji6]

I don't think it has anything to do with racism. IRAN national team, should be for IRANIANS, not Brazilians or africans who were not good enough to get into there own national team.Originally posted by Keano View PostWe never tried. Let me get a little deeper into tis discussion now that you brought this up. How would you like being treated a s a second class citizen in the country of your residence? Don't you think once you become a citizen of a certain country, you should equally be granted all basic rights as every other citizen of the respected country? I mean if you've taken an oath and became a citizen, were there clauses in your citizenship rights? Was it contingent of some sort?Originally posted by irani8perspolis View PostI don't think it has anything to do with racism. Once you're a citizen, you're a citizen and you should benefit all exact same privileges as every other citizen. Otherwise what's the point of granting citizenship? Honestly it's just a common sense. This notion and mentality has been adopted and widely accepted by pretty much the entire world. Why are we so taafteye joda baafte? We, as citizens of other countries wanna enjoy all the luxury and and bells and whistles of being a citizen, exactly like everyone else in the country, however when it comes to our motherland, we tend to make exceptions!

Again, for me personally and many Iranians, our national team should be only for people of Iranian heritage, Afghan immigrants should also be allowed as many of them are integrated into our society. Bottom line is, we are not a nation built on immigration like western countries, we have been a mixture of these Iranian ethnic groups for thousands of years, so it does not make sense for us to pull a Qatar.Originally posted by Keano View PostLet me get a little deeper into tis discussion now that you brought this up. I think a great point of pride for me and many other members on this forum is that, our national teams, regardless of the sport, have never naturalized foreign players, we have always competed with our own players. Similar to our clubs in the ACL, I am proud when Esteghlal, with 10 Iranian players, can outclass Al Ain who was ridden with South Americans

Mame Thiam is absolute class.. First of all, to those who say he was a flop and didn't score anywhere else, just a reminder that he was a left winger and wingers dont score as much. Look at his assists.
His ceiling is probably French Ligue 1, or low-mid tier Serie A team..
Also, Luciano and Ibrahima Toure were both two top class strikers wow

Perfectly said. It's sort of like USA with many of its players.Originally posted by Keano View PostLet me get a little deeper into tis discussion now that you brought this up. I feel once you are a citizen, you have the rights of everyone else.
If we are going off the notion of being "naturalized" then Saman Ghoddos shouldn't be on TM since he was born in Sweden.

Saman is of Iranian heritage, he isn't being naturalized at all. As I said in my response to Keano, countries like the US are built on immigration, so it is natural for them to have players with heritage from around the globe. A country like Iran with no prior history of major immigration in the modern era (other than Afghans who are culturally and linguistically close to Iranians anyways), should not naturalize foreign players.Originally posted by naderb94 View PostPerfectly said.
