Well I know Italian club teams and the NT do it. But they're sponsored by Dolce Gabbana, Boss, Armani etc...

The understanding is correct. The US may threaten sanctions on any businesses/countries doing certain types of business with Iran -- I don't know if that would include clothing/appeal industries (but assume it does, the sanctions are wide ranging). Given that the US economy is larger than any other country, larger than the entire EU, Iran will likely lose the business of any major global company which odds are has a greater business interest in the US than Iran.
