His position is very competitive, we have Hajsafi, Ezzatollahi, Ebrahimi, add to that Kamyabinia, Nourafkan, Cheshmi and quite few others who have a chance.

Update from today. Croat sources state Dinamo Zagreb is offloading Karimi. They tried to loan him out which did not happen. Lastly, they have apparently agreed to a mutual termination of his contract. Please correct me if I have misinterpreted the translation:

"Continue cleaning in Dinamo; It was another expensive failure

In Dinamo, players with big contracts are slowly resolved, and they did not bring the required quality. Maksimirska 128 left the Iranian conveyor Ali Karimi

In Dinamo last season, they had big revenues from transfer and participation in the Champions League, but this year Dinamo can only win the league in the European League, which is a lot less money.

That's why the club is trying to reduce large expenditures, and the biggest item is players' salaries. In Maksimir's dressing room she started a real cleansing.

The club left Machado, Goncalo, Situm, Schildnefeld even earlier, a recent collaboration with Sammir and Guilherme was completed, and now the exit door is shown to Alija Karimija.

This 23-year-old midfielder arrived in Zagreb last summer, signed a five-year contract and soon ended up on loan in Lokomotiva (February 2017) where he did not intend.

In the last weeks Dinamo has been looking for a club that would take it to loan, and thus its income, but that did not happen. In the end, there was a termination of cooperation that was certainly not cheap for the 'blue', but it was better to pay a part of the contract than to sit on the bench and for four more years 'live' on Dynamo's hunchback.

Let's mention that Dinamo for Alija Karimija paid compensation of 360,000 euros to Iranian Sepahan, so it is clear that the total loss (compensation, last year's salary, early termination) is around 700-800 thousand euros."

Ali Karimi must stay in Europe. He's a really good player. Very surprised Lokomotiva haven't looked to sign him permanently.

                  Imagine if it's Panionios

lol that would be fine as he would likely start, but seeing as panionios only have one non-eu spot left, I doubt they will get him especially if Karim rumours are true. Would be nice to see him in a good team in Austria ( Rapid Vienna, Sturm Graz ), or a good team in Belgium. But it doesnt really matter. The best move for him will be the one where he will start. This guy deserves to just play consistently.

well that article suggests that for weeks now Dynamo has been trying to loan him off but unsuccessfully..!! if Locomotive wasnt impressed enough to take the loan bite again, then i dont see how they coulda convinced other EU clubs ..!!?
maybe he is on a pretty high $alary..? or Dynamo's other loan demands were set too high..? if that was indeed the stumbling block, then now that his contract is dissolved, he should be able to come to term with Possible EU suitors as a fee agent pretty easily..?
if he fails to stay in Europe, and forced back to IPL in the year leading to the world cup, then we must assume that he aint as marketable and EU worthy as we think he is..!

He played real well for Loko - even scored a goal and was starting regularly!

Wonder why they didn't take him? Lazy training sessions?

doubt it. He was a key player for them. But lokomotiv are not financially well off and are basically a feeder club for dinamo. They can mostly just do loans where dinamo is also paying most of the wages of the player. Karimi's wage was quite high relative to the league and thus they probably couldn't afford him. Now that he is free agent lets see what happens.
