Wasn't his injury suppose to keep him out 3 weeks ... it's been 5 weeks, I believe since.

Ashkan's injuries always seem to take a long time.

Always thought he was a bit of an underrated / unheralded striker.

Gomez is a great striker and Wolfsburg are lucky to have acquired him.

Surprised to see you both appreciating him that much - maybe those outside Germany have a different perspective. I have always disliked Gomez - a truly overrated striker, slipping & failing at crucial times, but constantly getting invited for no reason by Löw, who I dislike even more lol. Would take Mandzukic over Gomez any day! He was a beast and true fighter at his peak - scored in CL final too. The only reason why he didn’t stay longer in Bayern is because he had no chance against Lewandowski.

I mean I follow German football more than any other country.

You may dislike him falling but his goal scoring record was way better than mandzukic.

He is a box specialist like hormozgan says, in my opinion just an old school striker.

But I think that in Germany right now lewandowski, modeste, and aubameyang are the best strikers

Maybe the German media affected me too much, as they often criticized him too - but just from what I have seen he never was the player to shine at crucial times IMO. Actually I am one of those not fully caring about scoring records but looking at the stats at wiki Mandzukic didn’t look that much worse:
Gomez - 115 matches / 75 Goals......Mandzukic - 54 matches / 33 Goals. Correct me if I am wrong but when Lewandwoski joined Bayern Mandzukic got less minutes - else his scoring rate would have been even better. Couldn't find any stats to see the amount of minutes, instead of matches.

Anway; we might just have a different taste, but I personally would choose Mandzukic (back then) as he adds much more fighting spirit, passion and vibes on the field. Never liked the style of play from Gomez tbh, and the way he failed so often.

I remember I was at a bar in a Hotel in Thailand back in 2010 watching the semi-final between Germany and Spain, there was this older German guy who went mad as soon as Gomez came on, saying 'now the game is over!'

Germans don't really seem to like the guy for some reason.

Good to hear Mario Gomez joined Wolfsburg. Although he has aged he's a quality player and can help Wolfsburg get the needed results.

I don't follow German football but in tournaments he always needed a million chances just to score one goal. He's extremely wasteful.

It's probably a situation like Taremi. Neutral outsiders can probably see the quality of the player, but national fans overanalyze every single miss to downplay the player's good moments. I will admit that Taremi also is wasteful, but he's also proven himself to be clutch. Some players are like that. They will not score every time, but they are good to get into dangerous positions and score quite often. Still, a player missing 4 shots and scoring 1 will cause people to say how it was a bad game, ignoring that scoring one goal is very important for the team. I'll gladly take a player who missed 4 and scores 1, because that goal will likely lead the team to victory. I'm sure outsiders look at Taremi like we look at Gomez.

                      Might be a preference thing.

I like those classic strikers like Gomez and Giroud who are deadly in the box and great in the air (though I think Giroud is better than Gomez at build up play as well).
Many teams are slowly moving away from this style, and prefer strikers who can do more outside of the box as well.

he has scored 213 times in 356 bundesliga team games

and 30 times in 70 international goals.

The stats speak for themselves, the guy is a quality striker.

I still prefer player like Klose, he was much more creative and explosive.

"Ashkan Dejagah: Team training after Easter?

While the German Bundesliga season 2016/17 is already on the last few meters, returnee Ahskan Dejagah is still waiting to be able to finally get going at VfL Wolfsburg and to recommend an extension of his contract. The midfielder, who was forced to do so in the winter, missed the game clearance after his departure from Doha. In the middle of February, a muscle fiber fracture in the calf stopped him.

The latter, however, continues to slow him down, but at the moment, the currently individually trained German-Iranian is gradually in sight. "We hope that Ashkan can get back into the team training next week," sports director Olaf Rebbe says according to the "Wolfsburger Allgemeine"."

this guy seems a permanent sick-note throughout his club career..!!?

"Wolfsburg Ashkan Dejagah has a Hertha past. From 2000 onwards, the German-Iranian was first a member of the Hertha academy for young academics and from 2004 onwards. In 2007 the VfL Wolfsburg fled the midfielder. After the intermediate stops at FC Fulham and Al-Arabi (Qatar) the return to Wolfsburg took place in the winter break 16/17. "It just fit, and I'm proud to get the confidence," Dejagah said after his return. Currently, Dejagah is after a muscle-crack in the build-up training."
