Sorry boys, I missed why this is a "meaningless" tournament... 7 of the 10 teams that took part in this tournament are in the AFC U-23 Championship in January - that's almost half of all the teams in that tournament!

This was meant to be a warm-up for that tournament and even if we had failed in a competition that included 3 of the top 5 ranked teams from AFC U23 + hosts Qatar, it would have been a great preparation and in no way meaningless.

But we didn't fail and actually won the trophy which makes it that much more meaningful. So why do we keep putting TM on a pedestal even after poor results and keep pulling the chair from under TM Omid even after great results?!

Is it just because Khakpour is a vatani coach or because we hate Mayeli Kohan? Last time I checked, these guys had to work with the same limitations that everyone keeps complaining about when it comes to CQ and TM:

* Is Khakpour drawing from a different and deep pool of talent and 40+ legionaries?!
* Is he training TM Omid in world class facilities?!
* Does he not have to deal with league schedules, IFF's idiocy, etc.?!
* Are these players coming from the European footballing philosophy?!
* Was the weather in Doha much more pleasant than Muscat?!

And last time I checked, we didn't even make it out of the group stage in the 2012 WAFF with our national team, with Haghighi, Montazaeri, Pooladi, Hajsafi, Ebrahimi, Y Karimi, etc. etc.

So, I ask the question again... why do we have to undermine what Khakpour has achieved here with all sorts of limitations ? Even if we don't make it to the Olympics, this is at least something and last time I checked something was better than nothing, no?

They need to build on this and with the addition of azmoun, jb, torabi, kanani, ezatolahi, and nourallahi go for a top 3 spot in January. They have what it takes on paper just need everything including coaching to come together and do it.

They are youngsters from a torn apart country and they have nothing to cheer for, so it's understandable.

Good job to our boys for winning the tournament!

Not that great tbh. He was inconsistent, and tried a lot of long balls that usually gave up possession. But I think his style just doesn't fit this team, on the positive side he showed great calm, composure and lead the team

Like him or not (personally in everything outside football, I find such a character absolutely abhorbable), but MK has shown to have a very good eye in spotting talent.
If only he could stop being such a Hezbollahi ass hole.
