He is not fooling anyone. Canada played a great game and lost to a better team. If we had one goal scorer, we might have even pushed them to extra time but just did not have that quality. On the other hand, great athleticism kept us in the game till late.

It is kinda BS though that Canada had to play in Houston as a host nation regardless of finishing 2nd in group stage. That's always been one of the main advantages of hosting. I don't recall any other world cup with multiple hosts where this wasn't the case. The initial seeding places each host nation far enough apart that they wouldn't face one another until the later rounds, and in the rare case of that happening then the game between two host nations could be played in the 3rd neutral host nation.

With this decision FIFA showed openly how corrupt they are. Everything they did before they mostly did behind hidden doors, but this... I see a lot of US fans saying the red card should never have been given to Balogun and thus this decision was fair. But it shouldn't matter, a red card has always been a red card with at least one game suspension and you shouldn't be able to bend the rules they've set themselves in the middle of a tournament. They didn't even retract the red card, only postponing the suspension which makes it even more absurd. No way FIFA would give such benefits to a smaller nation.

It's obvious now that FIFA benefits and protects certain teams, but also some star players. The earlier discussion about Messi not receiveing a red card against Algeria just makes it all more suspicious now. Also, Ronaldo was handed a red card in the qualifiers and was suspended for three games in which he would have missed the two first games in this world cup. However FIFA made an exception and lowered the suspension to just one game. And let's not forget the elbow Ronaldo shoved at Pouraliganji in WC18 and the referee went to the VAR-screen followed by Ronaldo only receiving a yellow card instead of a red.
