This is how IR will spin it. I know you’re not the IR, but this will be their exact rationale. How could we be expected to beat NZ when Spain is staying Cape Verde and we have been unable to play due to great satan and little satan!

this is embarrassing. Spain should be embarrassed and we should be embarrassed. You will see Sunday and Friday how mighty this NZ team is when Egypt and Belgium show them what quality actually is. We are just bad. We’re using more or less the same players from 2014/2018/2022 with 1 or 2 changes and these guys still will complain about lack of preparation, we’ve never been prepared!

I was at the game. My thoughts

1) we always knew shoja nemati was bad; especially nemati: he was disaster. Just awful defending
2) ghoddos has no business playing anymore just not fast enough or impactful
3) moghanlou actually hustle and was decent. Taremi tries to do too much on counter and kills the pace
4) if azmoun etc there we win easily 2-3 goals

ok Now thoughts on LA CROWD
All the talk online..well it was bs. Everyone there supported team, even with shah flags: maybe a few people anti team Melli but 99% just normal Iranians who support team Melli and it was awesome to see: even after game when I was pisser the fans all cheered the players on. There is online; then there is reality. and that was the reality. I didn’t see much fighting either, just a couple people outside stadium who didn’t even have tickets.

it’s a shame we had NZ first; we needed a warmup game proper: ghalenoi said main focus of team was always 3 points from NZ but it’s like he didn’t game plan putting midget nemati and shoja against Chris wood like wtf? He really is a. Clueless coach.

I bet we will play better against Belgium Iran always plays to level of opponent but we need BIG changes in defense and midfield . Yousefi is good but wrong team to play him against

Iraq won the Asian cup when they had no friendlies during their war. Let's be realistic. NZ is not exactly Spain or a team to beat. We trailed them twice a team which is in the bottom of the whole 48 teams.

^ agreed. I don't understand any of the subs he made - imagine if we had Sardar, Allahyar or Hosseinejad on the bench - but Gohnoei won the lottery in life being TM coach for so long and for the second time.

With this selection we have no real weapons on bench except ghaedi who was just ok. He had lots of chances but honestly did better defense effort than I thought. Issue is alipour Hosseinzadeh torabi r decent but not impactful enough

yes we know that. We conceded vs Hong Kong, Kyrgyzstan? Afghanistan? Etc if my memory serves me correct. We know our defense and age is our weak link. That falls on GN.
Hosseinejad, koushki, and allahyar would have put a clinic today. It’s unfortunate but for what it was I’m not upset with the results. After all the pressure our players have been facing, they played good, in my opinion. I like the way we attacked. We got gassed around minute 70.

We have a bigger hill to climb but anything can happen.

our weakest link is by far our coach he started both our tall forwards and both had to be subbed. Should have kept one on bench.
