They knew exactly what they signed for, they have been in it before, so no, they deserve no break.

Mellate badbakhte ma needs a break, not these millionare footballers.

      Regime khayemals have no spine.
Let's be consistent and say the same thing about the Iran world cup players of 2018, 2014, 2006, 1998. IR massacres didn't start with zan zendegi azadi. They started in 1979.

I've been anti regime for 20y+ buddy. I didn't suddenly change my world view from Iran International tv channel starting.

I condemn what happened in Jan it was terrible tragedy. I also condemn the war on my country another tragedy

I can be anti regime and support everything Iran. Because it's my country, regardless of the government.

I have silently watched this forum I loved for ten years devolve into in-fighting. The message below probably won't change anyone's mind, and may get me banned or insulted, but this is why I agree with persianballer:
            1. IRGC and the Mullahs have been robbing Iran and killing Iranians by the thousands for 30+ years. The argument that, "now it's different", or "this was the last straw" implies to me that your convictions are either driven by bandwagon or your head was previously in the sand. "50,000 people were shot on the streets!" Ok? What about the 10 million that died due to economic mis-management and regional conflict in the past 40 years? I'm almost certain 95%+ of the people on this forum, including myself, are anti IRGC. But if you think their crimes in January were the largest or worst they have ever committed, that's where you lose me. If you think that the players on this team, who we all watched grow up with admiration over the last ten years, are now traitors to your cause, that's where you lose me.
            2. The second part that is very confusing to me, is when people say "we support pahlavi because the people in Iran want pahlavi". Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the people in Iran also wanted the Islamic Revolution and Khomeini. That is to say, perhaps the political desires of the Iranian population do not always align with the most optimal decisions.

I think the key divergence between the faction here that wants to discuss only the crimes of the IRGC, while supporting the bombing of our country by USA and Israel, and the rest of us, is that we differ on our belief in this statement:
"The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Wrong. Very, very wrong. The enemy of your enemy could himself be a bigger problem to you than your original enemy. Instead, the game theory correct statement would be, "he whose incentives are aligned with mine is my friend."

There is one thing I can promise you: the incentives of Israel and the USA have never, and will never, be aligned with those of Iran or the Iranian people. The reason being that neither wants Iran to be a regional power. You might be deluded enough to think that their only beef with Iran is that Iran threatens Israel's existence, but the history of geopolitics would teach you that that is just a pretense (on both sides, Iran and Israel. Iran's propaganda about Israel is for domestic consumption and distraction from their own incompetence and mis-management).

            To close it out:
            1. Are Mullahs and IRGC bad? Yes, no question.
            2. Do I wish the people in Iran had the same freedoms and standard of living as myself? Yes, with all my heart.
            3. Were the Mullahs and IRGC the worst fate that could befall our beloved nation of Iran? No. Now that it is clear the IRGC will likely leave the war in a stronger domestic position than before, you will see true misery. I predict that someday soon, most of you will rue the day that Khamenei was killed, as Iran is slowly reduced to New North Korea over the next 5-10 years.
            4. Will I still support the national team? Yes. The same way I loved Iran's geography and architecture and food and poetry, I will continue to love its football players and it will continue to bring me pride like the aforementioned items.
            5. Would most of us behave differently than these players given the same situation? No. And those of you who claim otherwise are just like white Americans who say "I would have led a revolution against Hitler" or "I would have stopped slavery" or "I would have disarmed the school shooter". I'll believe it when I see it.

All these other countries, it doesn’t matter the religion, the political association, the color whatever they all are one nation one ppl,,

and they are their to help their country …

but us Iranians are the biggest buffoons and monkeys ( inside and outside both groups ) of all these nations we have the most in fighting than anybody. It’s ridiculous.

Team Melli was the one thing we all could just shut the political stuff off for for 90 minutes and now that has been corrupted too ..

The expectations are low , the team has aged, no real preparation with a circus coach. We will always have political issues overshadowing the team for as long as the Islamic regime is in existence. Having said that we all should be mindful of the players well being as they are subjected to pressure and intimidation ; asset seizure, threats, etc ). This is the choice that you face being part of a regime apparatus that has its tentacles on all matters inside the country. At this point, at least speaking for myself, my interest for anything Team Melli football has diminished. We can stay divided on this issue as it’s just a game , but don’t let our division have us lose sight on working towards the demise of IR

and it happened. Pro team melli Iranians who are against the regime are bashing out and calling people who oppose team melli vatan foroosh and monarchists. What happened to being anti regime and focussing on that? I even hear that some Iranians won’t bring shiro khorshid flags with them because they are ashamed of the “monarchists” wth
