I had the HIGHTEST hopes going in to the last WC with near home field advantage. And look what happened. I have the LOWEST hopes this time around and you watch, we will have our best showing. I think it might be best if we all lose hope. Lets try that this year after how many decades??! Lets go with no hope. Marg bar hope...

I am not saying we should lose hope, I say we need to be realistic with ourselves and consider the team and players we have. We will have the OLDEST team in the WC at this point and probably one of the weakest coaching staff. This is not a good combination.

Our celebrated team of '98 with all its superstars was an absolutely awful team. The mistakes that our defense and midfield made in some games were just painful to watch. We had some players that looked like they were amateurs...like Ostad asadi! On occasion even Khakpour would lose concentration and make comical errors. Our coach was different every week. Defensively we were a complete mess.

Our current team is made of professionals. The standards have improved a lot and many of the players have experience playing outside Iran too.

Jordan is probably the most improved asian teams record wise!
they made it to final of AC last time, they qualified to WC and barely lost the final of arab cups in OT to Morocco 3-2 with one disallowed goal, yea Morocco didn’t have the full euros based legionnaires but still a very decent side of Morocco!
they managed to beat Saudi as well

They got a little golden generation going with all their legionnaires. Their front three are all fast (Musa Al-Taamari) combined with their fast midfielders too

I sadly don't think so. They want an Irooni coach in USA to make a statement. That statement will be embarrassment like every other "statement" the mighty IR/IFF has tried to make in history, but it's a statement nonetheless. If IFF has any brains they'd fire him and bring in Skocic or Feliz Sanchez, someone who has some knowledge of TM football and a semblance of tactics. Apparently we offered Felix the job after CQ left in early 2023, but we couldn't wait for his availability and appointed GN instead (who was readily available strangely!). Someone like Skocic or Sanchez leading TM, easy round of 32 and good possibility of Rof16 or beyond if we get lucky and Uruguay beats Argentina in round of 32.

With GN, 1 point from NZ guaranteed. and we escape bottom of the group. Final standings calling today:

If you want to save this and come back to this in June 2026, please do. Guaranteed if GN is coach, and it's sad that IFF knows this and will do nothing about it. Laziness mixed with an intent to degrade anything good we have. Nobody cares about TM in Iran anymore, and us abroad care less than in any recent memory. It is intentional. They want us to do well enough that they can say "look at the mighty Iran, easy WC qualification against minnow teams (except can't beat UZB). Oops, we sucked on the international stage, please don't flood to the streets to enjoy life, we don't prefer that! Doing just enough to keep people complacent, but overall sucking the joy out of anything enjoyable in life. This is the standard for us Iranians.

There’s no guarantee we get 1 point from New Zealand. They are just as good as Qatar and Uzbekistan who have been mopping the floor with us lately.

New Zealand hasn't won a game outside Oceania in like 15 games...if we lose to them at the World Cup we should just disband our whole team

I am looking around and a lot of youtubers out there have high hopes for us, specifically our offensive prowess, they acknowledge our dismal defending ... so im hearing we can score at least one against Belgium, beat NZ, and get some points from Egypt.

I think it depends if we have our full firepower up front (Azmoun, Gholi, Mohebi, Ghaedi, etc) and how the injury situation looks like. If we're lining up against Belgium with just Taremi and Alipour there is no offensive prowess
