Interesting to note that most of Asia’s top players : hwang hee Chan, Son Heung Min, Lee Kang in, Taremi, Minamino, Mitoma all bottled the knock out stages to some extent and we’re out down by Persian gulf Arab league players for the most part. I guess playing in Europe only counts for so much you need some sort of tactical cohesiveness to succeed for an entire tournament

100% agree! - you need a combination of a "good enough" squad + a world class / very high quality coach to stay consistent and win these tournaments, otherwise, anything can happen....ok you also need a supportive federation and set up from the get-go lolll so lots of things required that we unfortunately do not have.

Terrible lineups and subs all tournament. Finally caught up with us. Ebrahimi starting was outrageous. Gholizadeh getting no playing time is indefensible.

Taremi is the biggest choker in Iranian football. He had a tournament to forget.

Ghalenoei is the worst coach ever. He could have just made some subs, been active towards the end of the game before Qatar scored, making subs. Qatar was done, they were tired and making so many mistakes. We needed some creativity and penetration on the wings to punish that and put the game away but he just allowed things to stay the same and we ended up conceding a bs goal. He is way out of his depth and I don’t want to see him near TM again. He achieved as much, if not less than CQ. So we are still in the hunt for a coach to make us even better than this underachieving we typically do.

He has to go ASAP. bring in a good, foreign coach and introduce some young and promising players to the squad.

It's heartbreaking but we'll recover and come back stronger.

Like someone else said how ironic is it that Ramin is always too far up as a defender and he happens to be our last defender keeping qatars player onside. We really have no luck.

No bro... its not that we are cursed. We were just not good enough as simple as that. Its not easy to play against a Qatar team that plays at home. Still i think we have over performed to be in the semis.

Be honest with your selfs, how many of you belived we would be in Semis? I think in the poll before this tournement most people belived Quarter finals would be our peak.

Imagine being so lucky that all you have to do is beat Qatar and Jordan to win the Asian Cup and you shit the bed. Taremi absolute garbage the whole tournament. Beiravand absolute garbage the whole tournament. GN garbage the whole tournament and got saved by the Japan game. No Ghaedi against Arab players? No Gholizadeh when even Jahanbakhsh and Ezza’s technical play was getting past the Qatari defenders? What on earth was GN thinking?!

100%. If slow ass JB and Eza juking Qatari defenders then gholi could have destroyed them. Same with ghaedi, who had a great 3 performances against THREE ARAB TEAMS.

GN make SAME MISTAKE AS CQ. Carlos started same lineup vs USA as wales.

GN assumed he should start Omid because he did well vs Japan, but we needed speed in this game.

Very true...There are I'd say 3-4 decent youth we have in: Allahyar, Hosseinejad, Yadegar, and Hazbavi who have the "it" factor to get bigger in the next few years, and (Razzaghinia, Andarz, Shakouri from our U17). Besides that we are gonna enter a period of dormancy again like 2010-2014 where we were god awful until the next crop of stars pop up over a period of 2-3 years.
