I'm glad to see that Im not the only one that thinks G. Rezaei is over-rated.

On the football forum, they treat him like he's the 2nd coming of Mahdavikia.

After the UAE WCQ in Dubai, after the 1-1 draw, I made a thread about his 1v1 miss in the 94th minute to give us the win. Now we can see how important those 2 points were. If he's good he can finish a simple 1v1, no?

I didnt get the "make a poll" bit.
exactly what poll am I supposed to make?

coz as far as I remember, there is a poll addressing a direct comparison between 2 players GN and haydari. one who gets free passes and waltzes in on every squad, while the other has been overlooked time and time again. and the only time he was called, he was dropped at the last moment .... in favor of the former!!!
and I dont think we'd need a mathematician to explain the 80% vs 20% results in favor of one of those.

Well, overall a one of your fairer posts , but still, this conclusion leads us to two possible scenarios - a concept we already discussed repeatedly before. Either Daei does something wrong, or your judgement of the players' strength is wrong.

You seem to love polls, maybe one can help you find out which scenario is more likely .

    ^ spot on, bahram jan.

very precise description of what rezaei does in the team.
runs a LOT and I'm sure he's a good player and all. but how much does he serve the team?
he seems to pass ONLY when he's absolutely forced to & as LAST resort, and when he is surrounded by gangs of defenders , which usually win the ball away anyway!

I have seen far too many players....for some reason...I just do not like Rezaie !.....
He seem to be running around a lot but very isolated...while he might bug defenders and create confussion, and get the ball once in a while,...but I have never seen him in cooperation with other players...or create passes and uppertunities for others...nor have seen him as a header..nor have seen him as a finisher...nor have I seen him as one who has any good kicks !
He seems to only see his immidiate surrounding .

look guys, I'm trying to show how certain EXCUSES dont tally up with what's actually going on.

of course rezaei is good enough to be in the roster ... but borhani is slightly better since he seems to be scoring goals ALSO ( as a notch higher than rezaei who is NOT! and is being selfish in his game more often than not ).

of course I'd want to have shojaei in the team. he's a good player. But I'd want karimi ( or any other TOP playmaker, like jabbari ) there becoz they are that much better than shojaei in their service to the TEAM ( since it's been this very factor that's been missing at TM games ).

of course g-nejad is a talented player. But heydari is that much better than him at the moment

I haven't seen G. Rezaei play at the club level - but things work in weird ways...

some are great at the club level, but no internationally
others are great internationally, but not at the club level

Rezaei probably falls into the latter category - I haven't really seen a 'horrible' or even 'bad' game from him. I've liked him up front in all of our games b/c he's a hustler, has some skill, and scores for us. I don't see any problem with playing him as our striker still.

As for Borhani, i'm not sold on him, although he should be tried a lot more - I was disappointed that he was not given a game or 2 in these recent friendlies.

    are you freaking kidding me?

all he's done in his past 4-5 games ( club and TM ) is run around, selfishly and often uselessly!!! and he gets a free straight pass to TM???

perhaps rezaei's number of league goals is what makes daei persist on him than borhani.

... oh, wait. that's borhani and not rezaei!!!

    ===========================

2- I guess these days nothing is going Daei's way and "abr o baad o mah o khorshid" are in cohorts against him

Nouri, another of daei's straight picks played a very poor 20 minutes. this way daei's put in a fix to either stand by HIS WORDS or break them !! LOL.

I think we shd have a "counter" , keeping track of the number of TM squad who have not played their full 90 minute in their last couple of club games.
The same point I defended on the football forum yet ppl say his international experience is low but he has good amount of goals in 17 caps so he deserves to be called up. It doesn't matter if he can't score for Saba, but he should run his ass off in TM, taking away another spot in this weak TM of ours.

    Hamegi ba ham: DAEI SHIRE?

Now, is SHOJAEI out of TM ?

coz he also didnt play more than 20 minutes ( less than a half, in fact ) for his club .... and quite ineffectual and useless too.

so are we to understand by Daei's measures and international standards, he, too, will be struck off the TM list ?

what , who, when and where are all Daie's decisions.. but there is a level of consistency that has to be kept.. I think Daie has been inconsistent with his player selection.. the basis, I mean.

for a while Teymourian and Zandi, yes, and then no (even though they are relatively doing better now than when they were being called up)..

Kia is one day no, and then yes and then no again and then yes.. (and Kia himself hasn't been any different in his form or status with his club during that same span).. Madanchi, the same.. and many others..

again I have no problem with any of the decisions per say, in fact Daie should be given credit for trying out so many different players, but I question the basis for those decisions.. Daie has to MAKE UP his mind about at least MOST of his players by now and go with it.. let the team find some chemistry..

either set up games on FIFA days so a Kenya team can bring all it's players and so can you, OR if you are so desperate that you set up friendlies on Non Fifa days, then just set up friendlies in Iran against Iranian clubs on a regular basis with a plan not to interfere with IPL schedule and test the non legionnaires .. (why is IPL shut down?)..

Liverpool plays Real on Tuesday and Man U on Saturday.. (valee een Liverpol ajaab jeree dad een dotaro )

DD jan you are starting to agree with me over Daie.

Regarding the Karimi issue. I think by not inviting him, Daie is now 2-1 up on the personal battle with Karimi.

I never thought a national coach can bring his personal grudges to a NATIONAL TEAM and get away with it so easily.

    ^ LOL.
    nagging?
I guess it is true when they say "Truth hurts"

But come on, buddy. admit it, nobody can defend g-nejad's poor display.

Like it or not, g-nejad sucked big time. but I dont hold it against him coz he is NOT the kind of player needed for that post.
and we ALL know he is always there in the rosters ONLY becoz of daei's favoritism & bias. otherwise in his post, there are many other players who have been playing far superior to him in the last few months : heydari being a clear example.

    ----------------

secondly, the excuse of resting ACL players doesnt make sense AT ALL, coz we saw kazemi, akbarpoor, zareh, jamshidian, aghili, rezaei, sheyss, .... play!

na agha jan ... this watery excuse doesnt explain why we looked totally out of it in the middle.
it is borne out of WRONG PLAYER SELECTION.

we DO have far better players suited for central midfield, who PLAY in that post in their clubs ( unlike g-nejad ) and have made a name for themselves through their exploits ( unlike daei's choices ) but they dont get called. so we see make-shift shuffles like putting a right back for an offensive mid kind of desperate attempts as seen in TM!
it's just that daei is continuing his immature lajbaazi.

    ------------

    "MY BUDDY" akbarpoor?

bro, I dont even like the guy & dont want to see him in TM when we have the likes of khalili, borhani, ... outside.
But I have to be fair and admit he impressed me with his work-rate.
the little bugger ran his heart out ! that IS admirable.
    fair is fair.

To me , and that is entirely a personal preference , the best form of defense is attack... I loathe this tactic of sitting on a slender lead although sometime circumstances dictate such.

I don't have enough confidence in the defenses to sustain continuous attacks by the opponents, and as mentioned , their "Hail Mary" clearances usually end up coming back to them in a few seconds...

So , provided that we have a midfiled that does not tire and physically condition thensleves well , I beleive that TM should not sit on a slender lead scenario ....

The only thing that I slightly differ with you Agha Faraz , is the "Fear Factor"...I think TM should be afraid , concerned or cautious ( or words to similar effects!). This is Saudi Arabia , we are talking about . NEVER...EVER...undersetimate them....
    thanks Majid Jan,

yes - the need for a conditioned midfield is apparent. jesus, i watch english soccer and am AMAZED at the amount of effort and work these midfielders put in. how we can reach those heights, I have no idea...

in terms of fearing the Saudi's - i agree with you there. by no stretch of the imagination am i insisting on an all-out-attack. what I am insisting on (until about the 80-85 minute) is that we do not suddenly revert to a defensive strategy with 30-40 minutes left in fear of them attacking. if anything, it should be easier for us to hold possession as they push their men forward.

we are likely to see such a scenario too - where we score first someway into the 2nd half and then make direct 'forward for defence' substitutions, inviting those skillful saudi's forward into our third.

ideally, i'd like us to score really early, so that there may be a chance of nicking a second or even a third before the inevitable 2nd half defensive mood kicks in...
